7/28/2059
After a disappointing 38-62 start to a season when San Fernando expected to be the playoff picture we've fired manager Jim Hogan. This news should be a mild surprise after Hogan guided the Bears to the postseason in 2058. However, his team was only 32-33 under his helm last year and the Bears only signed him to a two-year contract that was set to expire at the end of the 2059 campaign. Hogan was hired last July after the team's previous manager, Neco Starr, took a more assertive role in team strategy than the front office was comfortable with. Hogan does not have a reputation for excellence in any major aspect of coaching.
Hogan's successor is 58 year-old Gonzalo Escobar. Escobar's hiring is a surprise considering his only managerial experience is 3.5 seasons as manager of SFB's rookie league team. San Fernando's new manager does carry a reputation of being excellent with both young players and aging veterans. Rookie league Kingston was 105-143 under Escobar's leadership.
The Bears responded with a 5-2 record in their first week with Gonzalo Escobar as skipper. Time will tell whether this was at least in part due to new leadership or was simply a dead cat bounce.

I saw that you had fired him. And he won't even manage in Des Moines, so I guess he wants NAS.

I'm too cheap to fire mid season.

Hogan was a free agent to be and by promoting my rookie league manager that inexpensive position was the only one I had to pay double wages.
