2059.03: Early Offseason Recap

12/1/2058

One player who played for the 2058 Bears retired from professional baseball. Gerardo Eremitani spent a few weeks as the San Fernando backup catcher and posted a .532 OPS. Prior to that he spent more than a decade as Brooklyn's primary catcher. Eremitani retires with 1,106 career hits and 18.5 WAR.

We avoided arbitration hearings with every eligible player. The two most surprising decisions were probably Don Moore who struggled in 2058 and Fareed bin Sa'eed who the game lists with a 30 OVR rating. I choose to believe Moore is more likely to bounce back while still in his 20s than our geriatric free agent class filled with players of the same ilk. I like bin Sa'eed's defensive profile.

SP Alexander Swanson - $3.375M
CF Fareed bin Sa'eed - $0.7M
LF Tynan Rose - $0.8M
DH Don Moore - $7.5M
RP Perry Wallace - $1.125M
SP Fernando Ferretti - $3M
RP Abban Layar - $0.75M
RP Jim Achbar - $1.5M
SS Kevin Corbett - $1.625M

Kenny Qasim was arbitration eligible but non-tendered. The other three players exhausted their arbitration eligibility and filed for free agency.

RF Kenny Qasim
RP Alberto Romero
RP Pedro Calderon
LF Martin Hemming
