2057.19: Bears, Beets, BBA Awards

Looking at the award voting results so far it looks fairly safe to project the 2057 San Fernando Bears will win the following awards.

GM of the Year – Kurt Imber
I suspect I benefited greatly from the Bears improving their record by 23 wins from 2056 to 2057 and snapping a 13-year playoff drought. I know that’s the main metric I reference when voting in this category. The only other teams to improve their records by 10 wins year-over-year were Long Beach (+13) and Madison (+10). Long Beach was already a playoff team in 2056 while Madison’s improvement left them well short of the playoffs at 74-88.

Yogi Zimmer Diamond Glove Award – 1B Francisco Martinez
Martinez was given a $32M contract during the 2055-2056 offseason more for his offensive accomplishments than his defensive prowess but he’s always been a strong defender at 1B. In 120 starts this season he posted the second highest ZR of his career, +4.0, which lead the Frick. His path to playing time improved when the Bears swapped out Naoaki Kurioka (who plays 1B well defensively) for Ski Melillo (does not play 1B) midseason.

Silver Slugger Award – RF Tommy Harrison
Harrison wins the Frick League RF Silver Slugger award in just his first full season. As detailed in this team news post, Harrison was never a top 100 prospect and his debut was overshadowed last season by Michael Schultz. The 22 year-old batted .346/.397/.601 with 25 HRs and 80 RBIs despite spending a majority of the season as the team’s leadoff hitter. Harrison’s 164 wRC+ and 4.6 WAR both lead the league despite only 474 PAs.
