2055.03: San Fernando Top 25 Prospects (15-11)

Post by BaseClogger » Sun May 14, 2023 9:00 pm

11/14/2054

The San Fernando farm system is at a bit of a cross roads after the promotion of several relevant prospects during the 2054 season. The system as a whole is lacking in top tier talent but does boast 21 of the top 500 prospects according to Prospect Pipeline.

Below is how I rank the 15th to 11th best prospects.

15) LF Ricardo Espinosa
Age: 23
OVR 45 POT 45
AAA .239/.363/.451

Espinosa's meh draft pedigree as a 4th rounder in 2052 and limitations defensively won't jump out at you, but I'm all about his ability to walk almost as much as he strikes out. Hopefully his batting average can bounce back next year so he can debut for the Bears.

14) 2B Carl McIndoe
Age: 23
OVR 40 POT 40
AAA .320/.380/.478

Carl McIndoe silenced his critics who said he doesn't have high enough ratings to be a real prospect by carrying his strong offensive production into the highest levels of the minors in 2054. He was the 6th round pick of the Bears in 2052 and has always hit. Similar to several San Fernado farmhands, McIndoe offers tons of positional flexibility. Unfortunately, he also has a reputation of not being very popular in the clubhouse.

13) LF Michael Schultz
Age: 20
OVR 40 POT 55
A .257/.321/.419

Image

The bad news: Micheal Schultz has 5-potential contact and will be at best a below-average defensive LF. The good news: the rest of the scouting report is solid-to-great, including strong intangibles. Schultz is an over-achieving 8th round pick from 2051 who will look to get on the fast track by lighting up A ball offensively to begin 2055.

12) P Omar Thind
Age: 20
OVR 20 POT 45
R 54.1 IP, 37 BB, 47 K, 7.62 ERA

Image

Omar Thind manages to make it this high on the prospect list entirely thanks to his scouting report, which features 10-potential stuff, a 9-potential fastball, a 10-potential slider, and an already 7-overall changeup. Poor movement and control potential makes Thind more than likely a bullpen candidate, but there's enough ceiling here to ignore the lacking production. Thind was signed as a minor league free agent in 2053 after being released by Long Beach.

11) CF Alonso Martínez
Age: 23
OVR 25 POT 55
A .022/.100/.022

Image

My format is to list above each prospect's production at the highest level they reached the previous season, and that is a diservice in the case of Alonso Martínez who has been unable to figure out A ball. This is a boom or bust prospect no doubt about it. He probably has the highest ceiling of any prospect in my system. Martínez was signed as a minor league free agent in 2051 after being cut by Long Beach. A legitimate CF, he's bumped a lot since then, particularly up to 9 power. But his poor makeup is likely to hold him back from harnessing his full potential.
