2055.01: San Fernando Top 25 Prospects (25-21)

Post by BaseClogger » Sun May 14, 2023 8:45 pm

11/14/2054

The San Fernando farm system is at a bit of a cross roads after the promotion of several relevant prospects during the 2054 season. The system as a whole is lacking in top tier talent but does boast 21 of the top 500 prospects according to Prospect Pipeline.

Below is how I rank the 25th to 21st best prospects.

25) 2B Brock Ramsey
Age: 17
OVR 30 POT 40
SA .360/.421/.547

Despite being only a 6th round pick in 2053, Brock Ramsey gets the last spot on this prospect list because of his minor league production to date. Ramsey hit over .300 in rookie ball and then hit .360 in his 86 ABs in short A ball. He should be acceptable defensively at 2B. I also like his work ethic and that he bats left-handed.

24) C Juan Suárez
Age: 18
OVR 20 POT 40
SA .234/.286/.596

Juan Suárez's playing time was squeezed a little in 2054 after the Bears added several other catching prospects to their farm. The 2053 3rd round pick is still young enough to flourish by repeating short season A ball in 2055, where he hit 9 HRs in only 94 ABs this past season.

23) P Herb Day
Age: 21
OVR 35 POT 40
AA 39.1 IP, 29 BB, 50 K, 3.43 ERA

Since being drafted in the 2nd round in 2050, lefty Herb Day has meticulously moved up the San Fernando ladder with two consistent results: the opposition usually fails to make contact and Day struggles to throw strikes. Not much has changed as Day nears the Brewster. He'll look to reduce the walks in AAA to start 2055.

22) 2B Takeichi Suzuki
Age: 19
OVR 20 POT 45
SA .279/.345/.472

Image

Possessing a well-rounded offensive profile and the skillset to be a good defender at the keystone, Takeichi Suzuki hit the way you'd expect a 2nd round pick to perform in short season A ball. He'll need to continue to hit to garner playing time because my system is loaded with similarly thought-of 2B prospects.

21) P Lowell 'Frolic' Cook
Age: 21
OVR 35 POT 40
AA 65.1 IP, 26 BB, 73 K, 3.99 ERA

Image

After taking him in the supplemental 1st round of the 2053 draft, Long Beach sent Lowell Cook to San Fernando midseason as part of the return for Amayas Moelling and Juan Martinez. I targeted Cook because he has good stuff--including three pitches with at least 8 potential--as well as the movement to survive in Chico's Bail Bonds Field. To avoid middle relief, Cook will have to improve upon his 5-potential control and continue putting up strong peripherals in AAA.

Honorable Mentions

C Pepe Rodríguez
17 year-old hit really well in rookie ball.
2B Yong-hun Kim
The 2B prospect with the best avoid Ks rating.
SS Zahir Su'ud
18 year-old will play short A ball and need to stick at SS or improve a lot offensively.
2B Pang 'Magician' Zou
Utility man who got a September callup, has a low ceiling.
1B Naoaki Kurioka
I shaved two years off his age last offseason but he didn't hit enough in 2054 to be the short-side platoon partner I envisioned.
P Pete 'Liquidator' Morris
I think the game underrates him and what he's produced at such a young age.
2B Fernando Segura
Did I mention I have a lot of 2B prospects?
1B Rodger Rutherford
The other key component in my return for Arvin Duggan didn't hit enough last season considering his defensive limitations.
2B Zhi-huan Lew
After being the top prospect in my return from Long Beach for Moelling/Martinez he's lumped.
P Joe Hulton
19 year-old relief pitching prospect.
