I've been wanting to write a Team News post like this ever since I took over the San Fernando Bears and I finally have a prospect worth highlighting in advance of their debut! Da Bears have called up 22 year-old AAA starting pitcher Perry Wallace and inserted him into their rotation. Wallace and his gnarly sideburns will likely debut at home against the Yellow Springs Nine later in the week.
As described in this Team New post from 2052, Wallace was once the top prospect in the organization (he's eventually been surpassed by other 1st round picks). Most recently, Wallace posted a 2.82 ERA across 201 innings for the Brooks Fighting Pheasants, the San Fernando AAA affiliate. During that run over the last two years, Wallace has struck out more than a batter per inning. In addition to the stuff, I'm most encouraged by his microscopic home run rate in AAA. His control is the only part of his game where he doesn't excel but he's been plenty efficient.
Wallace continues to rely on a plus fastball, plus-plus slider, and above-average changeup. The scouts think there is still a little potential left untapped in his movement, which would allow his 9-5-6 ratings to finish at 9-6-6. It's not a given those MOV and CON ratings will work in the Brewster, but with his steady level of production I've reached the point where I have to give him his shot for this lousy 2054 edition of the SF Bears.
Perry Wallace was the 17th overall selection in the 2049 amateur draft. He, along with the Bear's 1st round choice in the 2050 draft, SP Morris Chapa, are holdovers from Randy Weigand's previous regime and appear to be successful draft selections. Wallace was drafted out of HS and given a $4.6M signing bonus. His stuff bumped in his first few years of professional ball but otherwise he's just been a steady performer.

4.2 IP, 5H, 1HR, 0BB, 6Ks. Not a bad debut, even if it was against YS9
