Following 12 distinguished years of service, the Bears organization formally announced today that they will not be resigning veteran Angel Garcia and will be allowing him to test the FA market. This is simply confirmation of a poorly held secret, as one look at the Bears books for next year reveals a team pressed right up against the salary cap, with a ready made replacement in Carlos Flores ready to go. Acquired in a much discussed trade with Nashville early in the 2035 season (on a side note, for those who say that there cant be respectful trade discussions i advise you to read that thread and be proven wrong), Garcia put up a very solid career with San Fernando, accumulating nearly 40 WAR in 12 seasons, placing in the top 5 of numerous offensive categories in the history of the franchise.
Being a bit of a swiss army knife defensively, Garcia played all around the infield during his tenure, being a key part of two pennant winning teams. When asked about his departure, GM Randy Weigand was effusive in his praise saying "We loved having Angel on our team for over a decade, and would have loved to keep him for longer but unfortunately we have to manage the salary cap and just simply can not pay him what he is worth. Rather than make him an insulting offer, we have been upfront with him for over a year now that he would be playing elsewhere in 2047 and we wish him nothing but the best."

Selfishly I hope someone in the BBA signs him, both for comp pick and also because I think he has more in the tank and want to see him push his stats into HOF ballot territory (though I don't see him getting in). He does seem like a prime UMEBA overpay candidate though.
