Despite being in the playoff picture for most of the season and winning a very respectable 89 games, the San Fernando Bears ended up falling a few games short in September and will be watching the playoffs from the comforts of their couch. While the team rode a relative balance of hitting and pitching over the course of the season, it was ultimately a few key injuries to two major contributors in Reggie Vargas and Angel Garcia proved to be too much to overcome. Star RF Angel Gonzalez did his best to drag the team to the finish line, making a strong case for his second Sawyer Silk award.
When asked about how the season went as a whole, GM Randy Weigand was quoted as saying "while obviously it is a disappointment not to be playing in October, I think most franchises would take 89 wins if you offered it to them preseason. I'm proud of our pitching staff not having to miss a single start, that gives us something to build on for next season. We had 2 guys in Gonzo and Vargas who put up Silk caliber seasons and that gives us a lot of hope for the future".
The Bears are looking set for a quiet offseason, with Angel Garcia being the only meaningful FA, and given the current cap situation he is likely to find his walking papers handed to him with youngster Carlos Flores getting the shot to replace him.

Yeah, ouch. Happy Golden Horseshoe.
You were one of my four bets to win the BBA title this year in the prop bets too, along with the rightful claimant to the Frontier throne, San Antonio, Atlantic City (who has maybe the best player in baseball) and, fortunately, Louisville.

i didnt have a single major injury until those 2 in September, which was just brutal timing. Overall I wasn't thrilled with my offense, but if I can get what I got from my staff every year, I will take it.aaronweiner wrote: ↑Mon Apr 26, 2021 6:49 amYeah, ouch. Happy Golden Horseshoe.

I knew there was gonna be some good teams left out in the cold this season. Injuries at the end of the season are the hardest to overcome. You should be ok the next few seasons with that pitching staff and the offense will bounce back fine.
