While it was a bit of an uneven season by his elite HOF standards, one thing that Tai hoi Wie managed to do incredibly well all season was draw a walk. He was so proficient at it that at the end of the season he found himself tied with Mark Wareham atop the single season record list with 164. All of those walks enabled Wie to post a stellar .417 OBP despite a pedestrian .238 BA.
When asked about the record, Wie shrugged his shoulders and responded "I had some problems swinging the stick this year, but I consistently pride myself on my knowledge of the strike zone and im glad I was able to help the team." Despite his historic season, the giant cloud looming over the player and franchise is Wie's impending free agency. It has been known that the player and GM Randy Weigand have been playing chicken all year long, with the franchise not willing to go beyond a 3 year offer for the 35 year old Wie and the player wanting a 6 year deal which would take him into his 40s. The mid-season acquisition of Jose Calderon was widely seen as a bridge to a post-Wie future, although the organization has stated they would still love to have him back.

Wie was always right behind Wareham in walks every season... But Wie's such a better hitter in every aspect than Wareham.
The only reason Wareham's career WAR is close to Wie's is because Mark played Shortstop and Wie played 1B.
And LOL at Jose Calderon having his worst season ever until he was traded... That had to burn Ted to see that. I'm sure Calderon was killing him with his crappy year in TWC. He's been such a great hitter vs Righties for several seasons.

It would be hard to see Wie playing for someone else.

Trust me I dont want him to, but I also wasnt going to give him a 9 figure deal over 6 years that would take him past his 41st birthday like he was asking for.
