Having signed a 4 year extension earlier this season, there were some in Buffalo who were not sure that he would have enough at bats to make this deal worth while. John squared did plenty in August to appese those doubters, hitting .364 / .447 / .545 with 7 doubles, 3 dingers, scoring 13 and driving in 16 runs. He actually walked 14 times opposed to 18 wiffes, a great ratio compared to his season averages. While by no means a great defender at first, the team is very happy to see him put away his outfielders mitt and play at the lazy-mans corner, sharing responsibilities with Rod Smart.
On the mound, we saw a fantastic string of performances by Richard Wasson continue through the entire month. Again, I can hear Recte crying in the background, knowing that Wasson's 8 saves in August didn't help his team at all. Those 8 saves came in 11 apperances, with no wins or losses, in 11 and 2/3rd innings, giving up only 6 hits and 1 walk against 7 strike outs.
On the year, Richie Wasson is 3-4 with 33 Saves (2nd in the FL), a 2.64 ERA in 61.1 IP, 62 HA, 10BB and 55K.
LONG LIVE RICHARD WASSON!
