2002.05 : Buffalo Sauce - Trade Alert

Finally putting to rest rumors of the first trade under new General Manager Matthew Bornac, the Buffalo Bison today welcome two new faces to the franchise, and give a hearty “good luck!” to the player being sent east.

Joining the Bison is the multitalented center fielder Alan Sue. Sue comes to the team by way of Baltimore, where he has been with the Monarchs organization for the past nearly seven seasons. The Bison were attracted to Sue as a player given the fact that he will help shore up Center Field, being a premier defender with great range and a fine arm. While his speed and ability to get the bat on the ball are enough to place him at the top of the lineup in Buffalo, he could really stand to improve his eye some. His great work ethic and intelligence should take him far. In total, he will make for a good, if not great leadoff man, and even when his bat cools off, his defense will continue to be an asset for the Bison.

Also joining the Bison is catcher and utility man Bill Davis. Davis, at only 25, still has some time to improve at the plate. He already is a superb fielder at catcher and 1B, and is an acceptable solution in an emergency situation at 2B. He leaves Baltimore with a bang, winning the Johnson League Player of the Week award. Quoting from the news story around his award presentation, “Where the Baltimore Monarchs catcher goes from here, only the baseball gods know for sure, but Davis certainly made his mark last week.”
We now know he goes to Buffalo.

Leaving the Bison is stud Ralph Butt, a great young catcher who has already shown he can sting the ball. While the Bison never have a desire to see great young talent go, with the presence of Jeremy Hunter behind the plate, there really was no room for Ralphie, and the best choice was to let him go collect his at bats someplace in the Johnson League. Best of luck to Mr. Butt, may we see you in the All-Star and Championship game many times!
