2042.7 Melancholy News Bears: A Requiem for Luis

Post by usnspecialist » Fri May 08, 2020 9:24 am

While the blockbuster trade was notable throughout the league for the acquisition of Alex Ramirez, there was a twinge of sadness in the ballpark as everyone realized it meant the departure of franchise legend Luis Maldonado. Maldonado is one of only two players in the organization who played on the team in Havana and was a member of the 2034 Landis winning squad (the other being 1B Tai hoi Wie). As Maldonado cleaned out his locker there were no shortage of organization members lining up to sing his praises on the way out the door.

GM Randy Weigand: "Luis is a true legend in the history of this franchise and will always be remembered for what he gave to us

1B Tai hoi Wie: "Luis was the guy who pushed me all these years to become a better player and ensured i never took a day off, and for that i am grateful"

2B Angel Garcia: "It was so much fun hitting in front of Luis all these years because you knew he would find a way to get you around"

RF Reggie Vargas: "It is an honor to be mentioned as the successor to Luis, he set a high bar and gives me something to shoot towards. If the franchise feels i am ready to step into those shoes then i look forward to proving them right".
