2042.6 Good News Bears: Who Said Blockbuster Was Extinct?

Shortly after the team announced the trade of Knud Zeitler to Twin Cities they announced a bombshell of a deal with the acquisition of megastar Alex Ramirez from Wichita for a package of players including star RF Luis Maldonado, minor league starting pitchers Sumitomo Takahashi, Ramon Guerrero and Jose Lopez. The timing of the deal caught many by surprise as it was not known that Ramirez was available, and also because at first glance it does not seem like the sort of acquisition that a team in the Bears position would generally make.

GM Randy Weigand was asked about how the deal came about and he said "it was pretty easy actually, i knew Wichita is in a building phase and Ramirez is the sort of guy that does not really fit their timeline, so I reached out and asked Laverick how much cash and minor leaguers it would take to get him and we came to terms pretty quickly. It was painful to let Luis go, but that was the dealbreaker for Wichita and it is not every day you get the chance to pick up a guy like Alex so we had to take our shot".
