2041.3 Sad News Bears: End of a Dynasty?

Post by usnspecialist » Wed Mar 04, 2020 5:46 am

Ever since GM Randy Weigand took over prior to the 2032 season, the franchise has been one of the models of excellence within the BBA. After a rough first season with 75 wins (which was still a 9 win increase from the previous season), Weigand put his stamp on the franchise, with 8 consecutive winning seasons, all but 2 of those over 90 wins. As the old expression goes, all good things must come to an end and it looks like the Bears might be at the end of their current run. The 2041 version of the team slipped back to 75 wins, and while that is cause for celebration in some cities, it registered as a massive disappointment in San Fernando. For the first time in franchise history, they were sellers at the trade deadline, moving away from their starting CF as well as their 8th and 9th inning bullpen guys, all of whom made the playoffs with their new teams.

What next season holds for the Bears is to be determined, and the cause of a lot of speculation around the league. While there are no significant expiring contracts this offseason (besides a team option for Knud Zeitler), there is the looming extension discussion for star RF Luis Maldonado. Status of discussions is not known at this point, but it is believed that Weigand values Maldonado highly and will at least explore the possibility of an extension with him.

You are both a marine and an underpaid government employee. You will drink anything if someone puts it in your hand.

Excuse me......that's Marine (capital M, thank you very much.) And as an "older" underpaid gov't employee, I've moved over to the quality over quantity realm of my drinking experiences!
