2037.3 Bad News Bears- Pitching Decimated

Post by usnspecialist » Mon Feb 11, 2019 7:31 pm

The strategy for the San Fernando Bears this season has been a simple one. Ride the incredibly powerful and balanced offense and count on the 1-2 punch of Feliciano Rafael (13 - 6, 3.87 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, 153 K) and Ernie Kinney (15 - 8, 3.46 ERA, 1.34 WHIP, 142 K) to carry the pitching staff. Through the first 2/3 of the season that plan worked wonderfully, as the offense was putting out numbers at a record pace and both Rafael and Kinney were all-star selections, with Rafael earning some serious consideration behind California wonder Miguel Ramos as the second best pitcher in the league.

Unfortunately the injury monster has reared its ugly head, and in that last 1/3 of the season both aces have gone down, and there is little hope of them returning at any point this season. Manager Mike Wilkinson was quoted as saying "i feel bad for both of those lads, they gave their heart and soul to this team and now they wont be there for the fun part of the season". Predictably the team has faltered from their lofty heights and have fallen behind the California Crusaders for the division lead. New head of the staff Jon Reed (15 - 8, 4.48 ERA, 1.48 WHIP, 203 K) was asked how he felt about the possibility of playing in the Geoghegan round against either Omaha or Edmonton when a first round bye seemed all but assured for much of the season and he responded with "I'm not worried about either team, this is the same Omaha team that surrendered faster than the French Army when we faced them last year in the playoffs and Edmonton doesn't know what the fuck to do in October besides play hockey".
