2037.2 Mixed News Bears: A money move
In the first of what potentially could be a series of moves caused by an upcoming budget crunch, Leon Ramirez was sent to Nashville along with minor leaguers Hokusai Saito and Ánibal Gracía to Nashville in a deal that brought Alfredo Perales and Miroslav Tomanek to the Valley. GM Randy Weigand was seen having a long talk with Ramirez just before news broke, and when asked what he said responded with "that is between me and Leon, he was a vital role player for us and he will be missed". The reason for the deal was simple, money. The bears are projected to be right at the salary cap line for 2038 and with Ramirez in the last year of his deal, Weigand decided to move him while he could still get some value rather than let him walk for nothing. The return actually turned out to be respectable, as Weigand managed to wrangle both a replacement for Ramirez in Perales and a setup man (and potential long-term replacement for Miguel Macias), in Tomanek.
From the outsiders point of view, Perales appears to be nothing more than a placeholder until Sergei Hopkins is ready to assume his place in the rotation. Tomanek on the other hand, was a flop as a starter so the team focused on refining his pitches this offseason to the point that he looks ready to assume the 8th inning role and if that works out potentially the 9th inning down the road.

Man I must have missed a bunch of TNs over the last few weeks. Read the headline here and thought San Fernando had hired Cardi B to be their new GM or something.

At first glance, no. However, Perales has spent more time on the DL than in the clubhouse this season. Tomanek is turning out nicely but that just means his ARB numbers will be rising for next year. Saito is doing well enough in AA and is still only 20. Garcia is still pretty young but could eventually be a decent bench piece. Now, Ramirez - he's having a tough season. His K:BB ratio is much better than expected (overall) but righties are just teeing off on him. At least he's still got his leadership qualities.

Tomanek is the best player in the deal by a decent margin in my book.

Not disagreeing but worth mentioning that the tomanek I have isn't the one I traded for. I converted him and his ratings responded nicely.

True, but I personally liked him more as a starter. Different strokes, though.

Still worth the deal for me. I have some RPs but could always use better SPs. Adding a lefty is also helpful in the JL Southeast too.

Re: 2037.2 Mixed News Bears: A money move
Just explaining my thought process (a peak inside The Plan®)
If you take it a step further, the Clulow trade almost isnt looking as bad now. Clulow went down for 6 months last season and is doing okay this season. He was traded for Tomanek and Aleixo Urgeses who is probably one (medium to longer term) injury away from his BBA debut.
Then Tomanek and Perales, who spends more time on the DL than in the clubhouse, got flipped into the three mentioned above. So, Clulow (and Perales) got turned into 5 players that seem to be doing okay. To me, I'm not having as much buyer's remorse as I had in the 2034 season when I traded Clulow. I'm at peace with it now.
