2035.4 Good News Bears- Up Where We Belong

Post by usnspecialist » Wed Aug 22, 2018 11:20 am

After a season that started off incredibly frustrating for San Fernando and their new fans, the team finally managed to get out of neutral and put together an incredible hot streak after the all-star game that produced the league's best record in that time and culminated in a rise to the 2nd wild card spot in the Frick League. In a dramatic departure from last year when the pitching staff tied for the fewest runs allowed in the Brewster, virtually the same rotation got absolutely abused this year to the tune of one of the highest run totals in the league. Pretty much the only pitcher who performed at a consistently high level throughout the year was Ernie Kinney (17 - 5, 3.32 ERA, 1.24 WHIP, 141 K), and he will probably collect a few down-ballot Nebraska votes as a result.

The offensive side of the ball had no such problems however, as they paced the entire Brewster in runs scored. The lineup was incredibly balanced, with previous standouts Tai hoi Wie (.306/.417/.585, 42 HR, 146 RBI) and Jared Gillstrom (.335/.396/.537, 34 HR, 94 RBI) maintaining their superior level of performance, and young talents Luis Maldonado (.283/.350/.545, 44 HR, 119 RBI) and rookie phenom Juan Mendoza (.317/.399/.479, 19 HR, 102 RBI) joining them. Providing some solid supporting depth was Abdelwahab Kamade (.302/.357/.428, 7 HR, 47 RBI), rookie catcher Ares Papadias (.260/.326/.535, 33 HR, 96 RBI) and trade deadline acquisition Jayden Harsnett (.268/.408/.491, 29 HR, 80 RBI).

To begin their title defense the Bears will need to navigate the Geoghegan round, which was unnecessary last year as they earned a bye. Waiting for them there is the Twin Cities River Monsters, a very young and very talented team particularly on the offensive side of the equation. It should be a very entertaining series for all involved.

if you look at the 3 years he has been healthy, he has consistently out-performed his ratings. Throw in his captain personality and he has been a nice pickup for me off the conveyor belt that is California pitching.
