Havana Herald 2034.15- A New Crown for the King(s)

Post by usnspecialist » Fri May 18, 2018 2:10 pm

What is already being regarded as one of the classic playoffs series in the history of the Brewster Baseball Association, the Havana Sugar Kings clinched their spot in the Landis Memorial Series for the first time, as the last visit was in 1999 when they were the Buffalo Bison. When Jared Gillstrom stormed across the plate following an infield single by star rookie Luis Maldonado it touched off a celebration that went on long into the night. This reporter was lucky enough to join the team both in the locker room after the game as well as at the Triple Crown Club where the team went afterwards and made their best effort to maintain their reputation as the Bad Boys of the Brewster.

By the time media was allowed in the locker room after the game, the celebration was already in full swing as starting pitcher Jon Reed was passing out unopened bottles of Vodak Premium Vodka, which was apparently created by his fellow JL hurler Timofei Bakitski. When asked why they were celebrating with vodka instead of the more traditional champagne Reed gleefully explained "im from Tucson and one of my boys from back home told me that Timofei had this new drink out that was good shit. Since Tim is the first winner to come out of Phoenix since Charles Barkley's bookie, I ordered up a few cases for when we clinched this thing. Took a few days longer than I hoped and I was awfully fucking glad he wasnt out there facing us because unlike Marquez he might have been able to seal this deal against us."

With the heavy beat of old time American artist George Thorogood's Bad to the Bone pulsing through the clubhouse, GM Randy Weigand and captain Ernie Kinney went up to accept the Johnson League Championship trophy. In an unprecedented move however, the two simply took pictures next to it without touching the trophy. When asked why, Weigand responded "there is only one trophy we want to touch, and that comes next week".

Later on that night at the Triple Crown Club, a visibly intoxicated Jon Reed got into the DJ booth and thanked all of the fans for their support. It was a touching moment given all of the swirling rumors that the team will be leaving the island after the Landis is done, although there has yet to be official confirmation of that. Regardless of how the Landis Series against Louisville turns out, this has been one hell of a ride for the Sugar Kings in 2034, and there is one more stop still to go.

Here in Havana we consume regardless of the reason, either to celebrate, blow off some steam or drown our sorrows.
