While the pitching staff stole all of the headlines this season, the Sugar Kings offense more than held its own, and that unit was carried by the best 1-2 duo in the entire Brewster Baseball Association in Jared Gillstrom and Tai Hoi Wie. When Gillstrom was acquired in the highly controversial and divisive trade early in 2033, GM Randy Weigand and Manager Mike Wilkinson made the decision to pull him out of the middle of the lineup and put him at the top to take advantage of his skills and get him as many plate appearances as necessary. To say that move has paid massive dividends is an understatement as those two put up incredible numbers and are clearly two of the three front runners for the Sawyer Silk Award (along with Carlton Winson from Charm City). Here is how the Sugar King duo rank with the rest of the Johnson League in various offensive categories, and a key reminder that Gillstrom missed 5 weeks with an injury early in the year.
WAR:
2) Gillstrom 9.1
3) Wie 7.8
Total Bases:
2) Wie 385
8) Gillstrom 350
Home Runs:
3) Wie 51
6) Gillstrom 39
Runs:
5) Wie 120
6) Gillstrom 118
Extra Base Hits:
1) Wie 90
6) Gillstrom 77
Walks:
1) Wie 116
On Base %:
2) Wie .427
9) Gillstrom .396
Slugging %
2) Wie .641
3) Gillstrom .622
OPS:
1) Wie 1.067
4) Gillstrom 1.017
Runs Created:
1) Wie 171.69
5) Gillstrom 140.15
When you add in the fact that both men are above average defenders (Gillstrom at both 3B and SS, Wie at 1B), their credentials are nearly peerless throughout the league.

Re: 2034-13: Silk Frontrunners
like i said on the other thread, i flipped it but you really cant go wrong either way as long as they are both in the top 3 somewhere. The tricky thing with games played (wie played all 162, Gillstrom only played 134) is that you have to decide if you reward wie for playing all 162, or if you give gillstrom extra credit for putting up insane numbers despite missing a month. Gillstrom also played zimmer caliber defense at 3B, and slid over to SS and was above average there when Wareham was injured on multiple occasions.recte44 wrote:Wie>Gillstrom for me.
EDIT: if it is offense only, Wie takes it for sure. Putting up 7.8 WAR while suffering the penalty for playing 1B (and DH before gaona was traded) is no joke.
