Havana Herald 2034.9- Vegas Gets Hustled

Post by usnspecialist » Sun Apr 01, 2018 6:05 pm

Ever since he has been acquired by Havana nearly 2 years ago in a deal with Vegas, Jon Reed has been a very polarizing figure between the two franchises. Havana GM Randy Weigand has gone on record as being very high on Reed, calling him "one of the best pure arm talents on the planet". Vegas GM Matt Rectenwald does not have as high of an opinion, saying to pump the brakes a bit and generally acting very dismissive of the talented right-hander.

The situation came to a head recently as Havana hosted the slumping Vegas franchise and young Mr. Reed took the mound against Vegas ace Sam Romero with a stack of chips on his shoulder the size of which usually isn't seen outside the high roller rooms in the Sin City. When the dust was settled and the pitchers duel was complete, Havana was on the winning end of a 1-0 score thanks to 8 innings of shutout ball by Reed. Not only did Reed not allow the Hustlers to cross the plate, but he was flat out dominant. 14 of the 24 outs recorded were via the strikeout, as he sprinkled 5 hits and 4 walks around.

When asked after the game if he drew any extra motivation facing a team that gave up on him, Reed smirked and said "I think the results speak for themselves, im just upset Mike (Havana manager Mike Wilkinson) didnt let me go out and finish the job, I had a few more punchouts in me". Despite this rather diplomatic answer, Reed was seen buying cervezas at the local bar after the game and verified reports have him using language that is not fit for a family publication when answering a similar question. We reached out to the Vegas GM for comment, but he was unavailable at this time.
