The Buffalo Rag 1999.7

Post by cramsey51 » Mon Mar 07, 2011 11:46 am

Well, July ended up being a rather pedestrian stretch for the Bison, posting a meager 14-12 record. August has not been much better, only going 10-8 thus far. But, the team has 80 wins at this point and that is best in the MBBA, surpassing some the Madison Wolves run by some other guy named Chris.

Amen Mitrani saw his first two losses of the season in July, but has bounce back tremendously and is still having the best season of his career. The workhorse that he is, he has really taken this team and put it on his shoulders. Cletus Bullrush, Jr. has hit a wall (again! see last season) as of July. He is only 3-7 with an ERA of 7.44 in July and August thus far. Due to injuries, MR Felix Padilla was promoted to the bigs and has pitched pretty good.

Over on offense, C Jeremy Hunter has been fabulous. On the season he is 355/408/542, all of which are very impressive, but most likely not in comparison to other potential Sawyer Silk Award nominees. Hunter is definitely making a case to have people pay attention to him. Oh, his defense behind the plate is not too shabby either. Senior specialist Manny Cosenza has been a nice bright spot after a late season signing. Cosenza was unable to find a suitor in the preseason FA period, but hedged his bets for a late season calling. John Johnston has looked very nice after an average July for the Bison post trade.

What's going on in Buffalo's minor system you ask? Well there are some things happening that are quite interesting and some things that we can get excited about. Robert Reese, a reliever for the Buffalo's AA affiliate Anderson Joes, has a microscopic ERA of 0.42 after pitching over 43 inning this season. It is pretty clear that his defense has helped out, as he has maintained a .228 BABIP. SP Jon Brown the first round selection for the Bison in this season's draft, has shown marked improvement. In the latest development report he is improved in his fastball and forkball talents as well as upped his velocity a tick. ON the other side of the coin, the AAA affiliate for Buffalo, the Winnipeg Chiefs are a paltry 22-94 this season. Can we get some talent? How about 1B prospect Thomas Davis who has hit in 20 consecutive games and is hitting 479/506/671 in August so far and won star of the week recently. Oh, and he had a 25 game hit streak last season at the Rookie level.

He needs to fire his agent, he would have made $25 plus in the free agent market
