The Buffalo Rag 1999.5

Post by cramsey51 » Tue Feb 22, 2011 10:00 am

The Bison have cooled a bit in the month of June, but their lead in the FL Atlantic has not wavered. The closest contender at this point is the Atlantic City Gamblers, sitting at 15.5 games back while the Hackensack Bulls are at 16 GB. Buffalo played both teams this past sim posting 1-2 and 2-1 records respectively. On the season, the Bison have only a losing record to Montreal within the division, sitting at 5-6. That is also the only team in the FL that the Bison have a losing record against. Overall, Buffalo looks pretty respectable.

Much respect goes to the undefeated phenom SP Amen Mitrani who has posted a 14-0 record in 17 starts, while maintaining a 2.80 ERA and setting a league leading 162 batters back to the bench who struck out. His only non win in his last 10 starts came on 5/15/1999 against, who else, Montreal. In this outing, Mitrani went 10 innings, striking out 12 and allowing only 2 runs. In the end, Buffalo loses in the 13th on some back to back hits.

Also impressing in the pitching department is much maligned MR Ernest Nilson. Ernie has all the makings of a successful pitcher, although his road in Buffalo has been rocky. After signing in 1995 he posted an acceptable season with a record of 8-6, 3.38 ERA and 71 K's in 82 innings. His next three seasons he went 14-8, 5.35 ERA and a 1.44 WHIP in about 205 IP. But this season he has excelled and is maintaining a 1.37 ERA, 0.72 WHIP and has picked up 7 saves (almost doubling his career total in saves).

At the plate, what can I say about the tandem of Jeremy Hunter, Kevin Greene and Alistar Sharpe that I haven't said before? Green has contributed admirably in his part-time role and it will be a shame to see him go to free agency. I think his head is a little big since he is asking for an extension valued around $11,000,000 per year. He may get that elsewhere, but it won't happen in Buffalo. We'll just be happy with the bargain we have him at now.

Billy Johanson comes off the DL this next sim, which should be a nice boost both defensively and offensively. We lose OF Oscar Vizcaino to the DL, which should not really have any affect on the team. He is having a rough season and will end up going to free agency.
