The Buffalo Rag 1998.1

Post by cramsey51 » Tue Nov 30, 2010 4:48 pm

The Bison had a frustrating season in 1997. Missing the playoffs again, completely falling apart late in the season, yadda, yadda, yadda. So this offseason, some key moves have been made and all indications are that Buffalo is far from close to being done. Some key contracts expired at the end of the season (see Stephen Sax and Matt Sinatro) and a bad seed was refused arbitration. With some money to play with, the Bison were players in the FA market.

Slick fielding OF Jeffery Lindquist was on our radar and contract negotiations went smoothly. He can hold his own with the bat, practially getting on base at will, and is still very young at 27 years old.

SP Ken Gladden was added on the pitching side of things. Also relatively young at the age of 29, he is practically a senior citizen when compared to at least a third of the current pitching staff. Gladden endured some rough days in his tenure with Long Beach, so he can relate to where these pitchers are.

Last minute pick-up, is outcast IF Kevin Greene. He fell on some hard times in his career recently after coming off of a major injury. Still serviceable with the bat, he will fit in nicely for the Bison.

With some additional money to spend and still be under budget, the Bison have contacted teams regarding some large contract players that could help the team immediately. Buffalo is still pretty weak in the bullpen and relatively so in the outfield.

Lindquist was an interesting guy, and a nice pickup for you.

Yeah, I looked long and hard at him to fill my CF need.

I really messed up in not signing Gladden. I led almost all of FA, then backed off once you went over $10 million because I was an idiot when it came to the compensation rules. He, Harris and Hi Brown would have been a great 1-3.

Instead, Mitrani, He and Cramer make a nice 1-3. And the developing youngsters of Blain and Bullrush certainly will fill out 4-5 just fine :)
