2063.22: SFB September Roster Considerations

Third TN post of the day. Time to break out the bullet points. Below is my thought process on how the Bears handled September roster expansion.

Already Promoted

  • RF Kit Markoulides - he already got a short tour of duty earlier in the season and doesn't have much development left. Might as well let the 25 year-old spend time with our major league coaching staff. Won't draw many starts.
  • P Jerry Richards - a lumper who pitched shitty earlier in the year and got demoted. Doesn't have anything left to prove in AAA. Let him eat some low leverage innings and protect the arms who matter. He'd be non-tendered if he was arb eligible but he's got options so I guess we'll hold onto him. Maybe his ratings are on the edge of the 5-6-7 he used to be. Sigh.

On the 40-Man Roster, Not Promoted

  • C Pepe Rodriguez - our third catcher is better off starting in the AAA playoffs. Maybe he'll come up and garner a start once their season wraps up.
  • 1B Cornell Schumacher - I didn't realize it's possible to accumulate 600 PAs in a AAA season. Thanks for teaching me something, Cornell. You're blocked by Aggur Lugono on the major league roster so what's the point?
  • 3B Awdia Iman - it's not working out for the once decent prospect. We'll probably hold onto him for his last option year. Probably.
  • LF Daniel Throsby - speaking of not working out for once decent prospects, after a poopy season the future doesn't look bright for the 25 year-old Throsby. Anybody wanna offer me something for this 50 POT?

Not on the 40-Man Roster, Not Promoted

  • 3B Jose Mendoza - I hope you're still reading because now things get interesting. Mendoza had a good if not great season in AAA that wasn't enough to push Jose Reyes out of a starting spot with the Bears and there's no reason to get Mendoza's clock started for a part-time role. He doesn't need to be added to the 40-man roster over the offseason so I don't expect him to debut before May 2064.
  • RF Harrison Dundon - the recently turned 21 year-old top prospect was excellent in AAA and keeps bumping/developing so for a moment I considered going ahead and giving him Rafael Marquis' job. Alas, a fractured finger made it a moot point. Like Mendoza, he doesn't need to be added to the 40-man roster so I will probably hold him down until we gain the additional year of team control. He still has some room to develop his offensive ratings.
  • SP Brent Chappell - missed most of the season due to injury and is building his pitch count back up while the Fighting Pheasants play against his former organization in the AAA playoffs. At this point I'm not gonna promote him to San Fernando for one start and risk another long-term injury. Chappell will require protection from the rule 5 draft so the next decision is whether he makes the 2064 Opening Day roster.
  • SP Enrique Perez - like Chappell, Perez draws consideration because he'll be added to the 40-man roster this offseason anyways. Perez got his first taste of AAA after being acquired midseason and wasn't great. On the bright side, he's added an additional pitch in each of the last two sims. I still really like his future but not sure it's enough for him to be an Opening Day 2064 Bear.
