2059.27: Bears' Cubs - Outfield Prospects

In this edition of the 2059 Bears’ Cubs series I’ll focus on players who profile primarily as outfielders. We had a number of decent looking prospects on this list last year so we traded from this surplus. It remains a deep position group for us and the rest of the league. There is a mix of guys ready to contribute in San Fernando and teenagers with higher ceilings but needing a lot of development.

A
None

B
None

C
C+ Hector Garcia
C Jim Sitton
C- Steve Morris
C- Keith Tims
C- Liang Wan
C- Stephen Moorhouse

D
D+ António Fuentes
D Kit Markoulides
D Daniel Throsby

Honorable Mention
Lorenz Spee
Chad Reavis
Husam al Din bin Hussein
Marco Withers
Vincente Rosado

Hector Garcia’s had an exciting year, bumping his EYE rating a point and putting up OPS’s over 1.000 in both AA and AAA. He combined to produce 6.5 WAR across those levels and is now batting leadoff as a September call-up in San Fernando. The other key development for him was a point of outfield error thanks to the offseason development lab.

Morris and Tims are similar bat-first corner outfielders who are both in AAA. The key distinction between them is that Morris bats RH and Tims bats LH so combined I guess they could make a mediocre platoon. Sitton is a true center fielder who improved his OPS in SA by .279 points year-over-year, enough to get himself a late season promotion to A ball where he didn’t embarrass himself. Liang Wan has an extremely similar ratings profile to Sitton but remains in the international complex. Stephen Moorhouse clings to his 8 potential Contact rating. He hasn’t hit well yet in his pro career and doesn’t play much defense at any spot (he was converted from infield to outfield this season) but is still just a teenager.

Fuentes gets a partial letter grade advantage over Markoulides and Throsby because he’s a couple years younger but the scouts rate all three very similarly. None of the “D” group has played well in the minors. In fact, other than Spee and Withers (who are playing in the high minors but need a bump to make it to the BBA) all the honorable mentions are similar too. The honorable mentions might even have an advantage because at least they don’t have multiple years lacking performance.

Garcia seems to be struggling a little bit. Enough to need more AAA time?

Living up to his nickname. He gets a couple more sims but he and Keith Tims would be an easy enough swap.
