2059.15: San Fernando Welcomes Marriott, Other Pitching News

It’s been a frustrating start to the 2059 season for Rubén bin Majid al Din. The veteran hurler saw his ERA balloon to 5.81 thanks to a worsening K/BB ratio. Bin Majid al Din is removed from the starting rotation for now and operating as more of a swingman. The team hopes the time in the bullpen acts as a wakeup call for the 33 year-old. The front office will check-out his K/BB ratio in a few sims and with improvement lobby for him to replace the also struggling Fernando Ferretti. Down the road a few more weeks the team will also have the on-the-mend Alexander Swanson available for further depth.

The vacancy created by bin Majid al Din‘s removal from the rotation allows 21 year-old rookie Rick Marriott to check-in to the Brewster for the first time. The young starting pitcher’s scouting report is most notable for being hostel to free passes. League scouts think Marriott is solid across the board, with four quality pitches giving him enough stuff to generate swing and misses while also keeping the ball in the yard. This a quick promotion for the 2058 first round draft pick after breezing thru the minor leagues. The only personal baggage Marriott carries is high financial ambitions which we expect provides him additional motivation. Hopefully being so young means he still has room to grow.

For his debut, the matchup against Heartland division foe Chicago wasn’t exactly a pay-per-view event but noteworthy nonetheless. The Bears lost 4-3 with Marriott surrendering all 4 earned runs in only 5 innings pitched.

Inn other news, two members of the Bears’ bullpen were DFA’d and waived, Jim Achbar and Perry Wallace. Achbar's been the team's key reliever the past few seasons but slight lumps in his ratings have eroded his on-fiend performance. We've been patient with Wallace for over a decade but the team's finally lost patience in his lack of control and propensity to surrender the long ball. Please contact the front desk if you're interested in either pitcher!

As a result of this housekeeping, a roster spot was made available for Marriott plus room to select the contract of experienced left-hander Toshikuni Kubo. Our coaching staff has no reservations with putting Kubo into tough spots thanks to the success he had earlier this decade in the Boise bullpen.

It wasn't a disastrous start for Marriott. There's that.
