Now we really are Gambling (mid-May) 2005-4

May 11th, 2005

Round-up : 3-6 for the last nine games leaving ATC 14-21 for season in 3rd place in Atlantic Division, six behind Montreal but 3.5 ahead of last placed Carolina. A poor week for Gamblers opened with a 9-4 loss at home to Birmingham thanks to seven runs conceded in the last three innings. This was followed by a 2-1 home series loss to high-flying Montreal. A win at Calgary in the first of the series was soon followed by two losses to hand the series to the Marauders. Gamblers finished off with a good split of a home & home series with Valencia.

The Wildest game : May 7th @ Calgary
Tale of the tape:
  • 34 hits
    29 runs
    7 homers
    2 triples
    10 doubles
    14 pitchers used
    5 blown save opportunities
After Calgary scored three in the bottom of the third to lead 5-3 there wasn’t much hint of what was to come but from the top of the fifth the only half of an innings that the teams failed to score in was Calgary in the bottom of the eighth. Leading 12-10 after seven, Marauders looked to have blown it as Gamblers scored two in the eighth & ninth to lead 14-12 but a triple, single and double in the last of the ninth got the required three runs home for the home side to snatch it 15-14. Eduardo Deleón took Man of the match award for his 4 for five effort with 2 runs scored, four batted in and a walk but there were several candidates in a game which featured 12 players with multi-hit games. Fred Bluejacket went 4.2 innings for Calgary while Machiavelli only lasted three. Only one of the 12 bullpen hands that entered the game left with an ERA under 3.00 and seven had ERA’s over 6.00.

Star Men : Pitcher – James Henderson finally started to earn his big pay rise by going 2-0 in two starts with one complete game. In 17 innings pitched he allowed five runs (only one earned) with two walks and 11 strikeouts.
Batter – Fredrick Simon in his first action after coming off the D/L he hit .351/.400/.649 with three homers and 10 RBI.

Down on the Farm : While Brooklyn are still three back at 16-12 in their Triple-A division, Trenton’s season continued downhill as they went 2-8 to leave them 7-21 in last place. But it’s been even worse for A-Ball Long Island Legion as they went 0-10 to turn their season from 11-7 to 11-17

All I can say about our game is that my bullpen sucked slightly less than yours. :champs:
