57.4- A “Bachelor” Analogy
I watch “Bachelor In Paradise”.
Hey… don’t judge me…
After a hard day of raking leaves, cleaning out gutters, etc., I don’t see anything wrong with relaxing in front of the TV and watching some superbly formed young women frolicking on the beach in bikinis. And the fact that my wife is right there with me, and approving of me watching, makes it even better.
But let me pull this thing back to the BBA…
On “Bachelor in Paradise”, every couple swears their undying affection to each other, while keeping one eye peeled for the next person to walk onto the beach, to see if they would be a better option. That’s about where I am with my major league free agent offers. I get feedback from them saying how much they like my offer, but no one as of yet is willing to make a commitment. I get the feeling that they’re looking over my shoulder to see if another GM will show up on the beach and sweep them off their feet with a lucrative offer.
I did manage to sign a few minor leaguers. Jafar bin Haddad is a 29-year-old shortstop who I’ll be stashing in AAA in case injuries cause me to need someone who can hack shortstop. If you see him in a Gamblers uniform this season, you’ll know things aren’t going well. The other signings are low-minors depth guys; I don’t care much about them and neither should you.
Maybe I should make an offer to one of those 40-year-olds that have been the subject of recent features. Then I could come up with a nice “Golden Bachelor” analogy.
Oh yeah…I also made a trade, acquiring OF Ed Wolochow from Charlotte. He can play center, and he’s hit successfully at AAA at age 22, but he has no power, and he has had more injuries than there are broken hearts on the “Bachelor” beach…

Update: That danged Charlotte GM came down into the beach and stole Buwono Mainaky away from me. Oh, Buwano… did our relationship mean nothing to you?
