Some offseasons are like Monopoly: You just bop along, buying whatever you come across, and always looking to make an advantageous swap. Sometimes you have Boardwalk and four railroads, sometimes you have Baltic Avenue and the Water Works, but at least you're in the game.
My first offseason in Atlantic City is more like Jenga.
I've been presented with a stack of ballplayers that looks pretty solid. That should be good news, but I know that given my salary cap issues I'm gonna have to pull some sticks out. I've already let a couple of guys walk away in free agency, and the tower still looks okay. But I just got the news that my two high-salaried players that had player options opted in. It wasn't unexpected, but it does mean that, while I can scrape by under the cap this year, next year- oh Lordy Mama, I'm gonna have to pull out a bunch of sticks, and I don't even know how I'm gonna find a way to pull the ones that need to be pulled. For sure the whole stack is destined to tumble down.
Maybe I just need to introduce a couple of my 20 million dollar players to Colonel Mustard in the billiard room with a lead pipe....

Let it crash around you. It'll feel cathartic and you can start again in 2060.

It’s too good of a team to not hold together for one more run.
