Atlantic City Gamblers Announce Class-AA Trenton Retirees

The Atlantic City Gamblers announced the retirement of two players who were most recently members of the Class-AA Trenton Generals - shortstop Jerry Ryan and left fielder Pedro Sánchez.

Ryan, 28, was drafted with the 4th pick in the 6th round (216th overall) of the 2041 BBA Amateur Draft. Ryan spent four seasons from 2044 through 2047 with Class-AA Trenton, finishing his career at the Class-AA level hitting .197/.304/.251 with 111 runs scored, 37 doubles, 1 triple, 6 home runs, 83 RBIs, and a 1.4 WAR in 1,236 plate appearances. His final season in 2047 posted his highest WAR at the Class-AA level (0.7), but his 2047 OPS (.543) was 90 points lower than his 2046 OPS (.633). He was impressive defensively at shortstop at the Class-AA level (2,868 2/3 innings, +20.9 zone rating, 1.039 defensive efficiency); however, his lack of productivity at the plate ultimately halted his progression through the Gamblers' minor league system and resulted in his release on 07/28/2047.

Sánchez, 25, was drafted by the Gamblers with the 21st pick in the 15th round (511th overall) in the 2044 BBA Amateur Draft, spending time with Class-Short Season A Bogota, Class-A Long Island, and Class-AA Trenton. His best season with the Gamblers organization was his 2045 season with Class-Short Season A Bogota, finishing the season hitting .238/.376/.341 with 25 runs scored, 12 doubles, 2 triples, 2 home runs, 31 RBIs, 2 stolen bases in 3 attempts (.667 success rate), and a 1.5 WAR in 265 plate appearances. After slashing .190/.382/.241 with Class-A Long Island in 2046, Sánchez played for Class-AA Trenton in 2047, finishing the season hitting .167/.290/.220 with 20 runs scored, 5 doubles, 1 home run, 15 RBIs, 3 stolen bases in 4 attempts (.750 success rate), and a -0.5 WAR in 178 plate appearances. Sanchez was a plus defender in left field, but his solid defense was unable to keep him employed within the Gamblers' system, resulting in his release on 6/23/2047.
