2047 Atlantic City Gamblers - Pitching Standouts

Left-handed starting pitcher Carlos Flores

Flores, 26, continued to be the undisputed ace of the Gamblers' rotation, finishing the 2047 season 11-12 with a 4.06 ERA, a 1.20 WHIP, a 3.20 FIP, a .221 opponents' average, a .680 opponents' OPS, 250 strikeouts, and a 4.6 WAR in 179 2/3 innings pitched (32 starts). Compared to his 2046 season, Flores saw a 12 point decrease in ERA, and a strikeouts per nine innings increase from 11.3 to 12.5. On the downside, Flores saw his quality start percentage dip to .406, his worst figure in three seasons as a starter. Although much of the rotation is in question moving forward, the team has faith in Flores' ability and rewards him with a three-year, $47.5 million contract that goes into effect next season.

Right-handed relief pitcher Pat "Muscles" Waites

Waites, 24, has lived up to the high expectations the organization had for him, delivering superb results during the 2047 season - his first as the team's closer. Waites finished the 2047 season 3-2 with 34 saves in 38 opportunities (.895 save percentage), a 2.51 FIP, a .218 opponents' average, a .600 opponents' OPS, 77 strikeouts, and a 2.2 WAR in 61 1/3 innings pitched (64 appearances). Waites was effective in a setup role during the 2046 season (2.83 ERA / 2.75 FIP / 1.28 WHIP), but has continued his development by improving in many critical categories including ERA (2.83 in 2046, 2.49 in 2047), WHIP (1.28 in 2046, 1.06 in 2047), FIP (2.75 in 2046, 2.51 in 2047), strikeouts per nine innings (8.5 in 2046, 11.3 in 2047), opponents' batting average (.260 in 2046, .218 in 2047), opponents' OPS (.667 in 2046, .600 in 2047), etc. Waites will most certainly be the Gamblers closer in 2048 and onward, health permitting.

Right-handed relief pitcher Henry "Oh Rye" Fudge

Fudge, 24, finally broke out as a reliable reliever during the 2047 season after a disappointing first two seasons with the Gamblers. Prior to the 2047 season, Fudge recorded a 0 WAR and a -0.1 WAR in 2045 and 2046, respectively. His ERA improved each season, but a 5.30 ERA in 2045 and a 4.97 ERA in 2046 was hardly enough to get fans or the front office excited about Fudge's future with the Gamblers. Instead, Fudge stepped up, finishing the season 9-4 with 1 save in 2 attempts (.500 success rate), a 2.37 ERA, a 1.10 WHIP, a 3.16 FIP, a .212 opponents' average, a .621 opponents' OPS, 77 strikeouts, and a 1.7 WAR in 87 1/3 innings pitched (73 appearances). Compared to his 2046 season, Fudge saw massive improvements during the 2047 season in walks per nine innings (5.7 in 2046, 3.0 in 2047), strikeouts per nine innings (4.3 in 2046, 7.9 in 2047), opponents' average (.324 in 2046, .212 in 2047), and opponents' OPS (.883 in 2046, .621 in 2047. The 2048 season will likely determine Fudge's long-term prospects with the organization -- 2047 was encouraging, but a .258 BABIP compared to a .344 BABIP in 2046 suggests some good baseball luck might have had a strong hand in the turning of his fortunes.

Right-handed starting pitcher Woody "Shepherd" Tyler

Tyler, 24, has improved in each of his first three years with the Gamblers, but it didn't come without some trepidation about his poor 2045 and 2046 seasons. He only started four games in 2045 and recorded a 9.37 ERA, 2.20 WHIP, and 5.88 FIP. His 2046 season went better than his 2045 season, but he still struggled to the tune of a 5.25 ERA, 1.47 WHIP, and 5.24 FIP in 50 games (4 starts). Tyler finished the 2047 season 10-10 with a 4.17 ERA, a 1.22 WHIP, a 4.85 FIP, a .264 opponents' average, a .764 opponents' OPS, 113 strikeouts, and a 1.0 WAR in 196 1/3 innings pitched (32 starts). Though it wasn't a spectacular season, his performance was a marked improvement from past seasons and makes him a probable member of the rotation in 2048.

Wow ! Great set of articles, good reads too. Is it something in the water over in America that has suddenly made people produce TNs like no-ones business lol?

Well done anyway Joshua, I enjoy reading your pieces, you write in a similar style to me. Keep up the good work
