The Gamblers - Standout Hitters

Left fielder Juan Rivera

Rivera, 29, continued to lead the Gamblers in basically every offensive category, while also providing the stellar defense in left field (.982 fielding percentage, +8.2 zone rating, 1.048 defensive efficiency) that Gamblers' fan have become accustomed to. Rivera finished the 2047 season hitting .304/.368/.615 with 97 runs scored, 41 doubles, 10 triples, 37 home runs, 91 RBIs, 37 stolen bases in 58 attempts (.638 success rate), and a 6.9 WAR in 621 plate appearances. Rivera's OPS dropped for the second consecutive season (1.011 in 2045, 1.000 in 2046), but his slugging percentage increased to .615 from .611 in 2046. The biggest criticism that can be found about Rivera's 2047 season was a .368 on-base percentage, a drop from both 2045 (.393) and 2046 (.389). The positive is the .368 on-base percentage figure is the on-base percentage he finished with in 2044, and was able to improve upon it the next two seasons. Wrapping up his eighth season in the BBA, Rivera is now slashing a career .316/.394/.641 with 383 home runs and 947 RBIs.

First baseman / Designated Hitter Jack Cox

Cox, 27, finally broke out as a competent BBA level player after years of underperformance for the Gamblers in a part-time role. After three negative-WAR seasons in 2044, 2045, and 2046 for the Gamblers, along with success at the Class-AAA level during those same seasons (.280/.386/.473, 23 HR in 2044; .234/.352/.454, 23 HR in 2045; .233/.346/.359, 12 HR in 2046), it looked like Cox might be destined to be the dreaded Quad-A player. Cox finished the 2047 season for the Gamblers hitting .254/.360/.439 with 15 runs scored, 3 doubles, 6 home runs, 18 RBIs, and a 0.4 WAR in 136 plate appearances in a part-time role as designated hitter and first baseman. A major concern with Cox continues to be his defense at first base, which is poor (-0.7 zone rating, .963 defensive efficiency in 81 1/3 innings), but he was able to get the majority of his plate appearances in the designated hitter role.

First baseman Cinema Jones

Jones, 24, took a slight hit in his offensive production during the 2047 season, but finished with a career-high 3.1 WAR primarily due to his solid defense at first base (6 errors, .996 fielding percentage, +4.4 zone rating, 1.032 defensive efficiency). Jones finished the 2047 season hitting .275/.334/.446 with 80 runs scored, 38 doubles, 7 triples, 19 home runs, 56 RBIs, 54 stolen bases in 76 attempts (.710 success rate), and a 3.1 WAR in 698 plate appearances. Jones had a 13-point drop in batting average compared to last season, a four-point on-base percentage drop, a 54-point slugging percentage drop, and a drop of eight home runs, which are concerns. The team plans to re-evaluate their outfield and first base options moving into the 2048 season to determine if Jones will stay the course at first base or move back into his natural outfield position.
