Ernesto Zamora Appointed Gamblers Bench Coach

The Atlantic City Gamblers have announced Ernesto Zamora has been promoted to the role of bench coach of the Atlantic City Gamblers.

Zamora, 52, was a professional infielder who played twelve seasons, which included minor league seasons and BBA seasons. In three BBA seasons with the Vancouver Mounties from 2019 through 2021, Zamora finished his BBA career hitting .206/.224/.265 with 34 runs scored, 9 doubles, 3 triples, 2 home runs, 27 RBIs, 17 stolen bases in 25 attempts (.680 success rate), and a -0.8 WAR in 374 plate appearances. He played second base and shortstop for Vancouver, grading as a good defensive shortstop during the 2019 season, before regressing in defensive performance in the following two seasons.

Zamora began his managerial career during the 2037 season after being hired by the Long Beach Surfers to manage their Class-AA affiliate - the Newton Falls Flying Tigers - managing for two seasons to a 146-116 (.557) record with one division championship and playoff appearance. Zamora joined the Atlantic City Gamblers organization during the 2039 season, spending one season with Class-Short Season A Bogota Scholars as manager and leading them to a 41-29 (.586) record and a playoff appearance. Zamora was promoted to manager of Class-A Long Island, spending five seasons in the position and finishing with a 400-301 (.570) record with three playoff appearances. Zamora was then promoted to Class-AAA Brooklyn, where he managed for two seasons to a 136-152 (.472) record, which included a 78-66 (.542) record in 2045 and 58-86 (.403) in 2046.

The departure of António Sánchez leaves Zamora as the apparent manager-in-waiting, and there is some surprise within the media core that Zamora was not given the managerial gig outright. But at this time, the Gamblers will apparently make another outside hire, and Zamora will need to wait and gain experience like Sánchez was expected to do.
