Atlantic City Gamblers - The Good (Pitchers)

The following Atlantic City Gamblers pitchers were standouts during the 2044 season:

Left-handed relief pitcher / closer Carlos Flores

Flores, 23, blossomed in his second season with the Gamblers, finishing the 2044 season 6-6 with 32 saves in 37 attempts (.865 save percentage), a 1.94 ERA, a 0.83 WHIP, a 2.26 FIP, a .181 opponents' average, a .538 opponents' OPS, and 86 strikeouts in 60 1/3 innings pitched (57 appearances). This was an improvement from his already solid rookie season in 2043, where he finished 11-3 with 33 saves in 40 opportunities (.825 save percentage), a 3.43 ERA, a 0.96 WHIP, a 3.16 FIP, a .180 opponents' average, a .587 opponents' OPS, and 99 strikeouts in 76 innings pitched (61 appearances). Compared to his 2043 season, Flores saw a decrease in his home runs per nine innings (1.2 to 1.0), walks per nine innings (2.8 to 1.6), and an increase in strikeouts per nine innings (11.7 to 12.8). It is expected that Flores will get an opportunity to start in spring training.

Right-handed relief pitcher Elijah Campos

Campos, 27, finally posted a successful season in the BBA after years of struggles, coupled with successful demotions and performance with Class-AAA Brooklyn. Campos finished the 2044 season 6-2 with 1 save in 5 attempts (.200 save percentage), a 2.88 ERA, a 0.99 WHIP, a 3.47 FIP, a .203 opponents' average, a .615 opponents' OPS, and 59 strikeouts in 65 2/3 innings pitched (35 appearances). Prior to the 2044 season, the best ERA Campos recorded was a 5.94 ERA (2042). The Gamblers hope Campos can continue to post a sub-3.00 ERA and become a reliable bullpen piece moving forward, especially if Flores departs the bullpen for the starting rotation.

Right-handed starting pitcher Augusto Morán

Morán, 24, was quietly having a career year as he continued to show improvement, before a devastating elbow injury resulted in radial nerve decompression surgery and a premature end to his season. Morán finished the 2044 season 6-2 with a 3.15 ERA, a 1.04 WHIP, a 4.73 FIP, a .228 opponents' average, a .718 opponents' OPS, and 50 strikeouts in 94 1/3 innings pitched (16 starts). Morán is expected to be ready for spring training and the team is certainly hoping that his elbow will be good as new without any loss in velocity. Of course, there are never any guarantees that a pitcher will return to their previous form, and that should make Gamblers fans very nervous as he had become the most reliable arm in the rotation.
