2041 Gamblers - The """"""""Good"""""""" (Pitching Edition)
Right-handed relief pitcher Lúcio Gómez
Gómez, 27, had a career year during the 2041 season, finishing 9-6 with 1 save in 6 opportunities (.167 save percentage), a 3.90 ERA, a 1.22 WHIP, a 3.82 FIP, a .207 opponent's batting average, a .656 opponent's OPS, 78 strikeouts, and a 1.4 WAR in 60 innings pitched (35 appearances). Gómez was by far the most notable pitcher across the board for the Gamblers organization, despite having numbers that would likely skew more towards average on other rosters. Gómez remains under team control for two additional arbitration-eligible seasons.
Left-handed relief pitcher Emílio López
López, 24, a former 1st round (10th overall) draft pick from the 2036 BBA Draft, regressed from his 2040 season, but posted numbers that were among the best for Gamblers players. López finished the 2041 season 5-2 with 1 save in 2 opportunities (.500 save percentage), a 4.02 ERA, a 1.40 WHIP, a 4.30 FIP, a .270 opponent's average, a .788 opponent's OPS, 86 strikeouts, and a 1.0 WAR in 80 2/3 innings pitched (42 appearances). This was a stark contrast to his 2040 season, where he finished the season 4-3 with 1 save in 4 opportunities (.250 save percentage), a 2.41 ERA, a 1.06 WHIP, a 3.29 FIP, a .220 opponent's average, a .627 opponent's OPS, 88 strikeouts, and a 1.7 WAR in 86 innings pitched (44 appearances, 1 start). López was shut down in early September after reporting forearm inflammation, which begs the question as to whether his decline in performance was related to pitching through discomfort.
Right-handed relief pitcher Jarod Wilson
Wilson, 32, was another solid, unspectacular pitcher for the Gamblers who actually managed to register a positive WAR. Wilson finished the 2041 season 1-4 with 2 saves in 2 attempts (1.000 success rate), a 4.09 ERA, a 1.44 WHIP, a 4.56 FIP, a .267 opponent's average, a .772 opponent's OPS, 57 strikeouts, and a 0.7 WAR in 70 1/3 innings pitched (35 appearances). Wilson, a fan favorite, has been a member of the Gamblers since the 2030 season and his contract expires at the conclusion of this season -- it will be interesting to see if he is retained.

Why not try López as a starter?

Definitely worth a shot, especially against LHB teams.
