Victor Guerra Released After One Year with Gamblers

The Atlantic City Gamblers officially released outfielder Victor Guerra, one month after Guerra exercised the player option for year two of the three-year, $14.25 million contract signed last offseason.

Guerra was signed with the hope he could provide a solid right-handed, outfield bat, and recapture some of the magic of his 2033 (.289/.355/.558, 42 HR, 116 RBI, 4.5 WAR) and 2034 (.271/.343/.553, 49 HR, 128 RBI, 4.9 WAR) campaigns with Yellow Springs. Instead, Guerra had the worst season his career with the Gamblers. Guerra finished the season hitting .202/.287/.355 with 36 runs scored, 9 doubles, 2 triples, 8 home runs, 25 RBIs, 6 stolen bases in 6 attempts (1.000 success rate), and a -0.7 WAR in 272 plate appearances. It is widely expected rookie right fielder John Noble will win the starting right fielder job for 2039, with Stanley R. Perimutter acting as the primary reserve outfielder in the final year of his three-year deal. Fans were intrigued with the signing of Guerra, but the interest turned to angst with the boos loud as he stepped into the batter’s box.

The Gamblers are on the hook for the remaining guaranteed money on his contract, though that hardly deterred the Gamblers from making the move away from the 33-year old outfielder. “Things just didn’t work out with Victor”, said assistant general manager Julián Medina, “sometimes you strike out with a move, but that shouldn’t stop you from swinging.”

It's likely that Guerra will get another look based on the popularity that still exists for The "Barbarian", though the luster of past performance has most certainly eroded. Teams looking for a bargain signing with some possible upside may come knocking.

I kept reading this so confused. Assuming it was a post made now in recap of an earlier move as Guerra spent all season with Twin Cities. haha
