FPL Pitchers – The Negatives

The Tallahassee Gamblers finished the 2035 FPL season 18-10, tied for first place in the Panhandle Division and earning a spot in the postseason. The following pitchers disappointed for Tallahassee:

RHP Torazo Tanaka

Tanaka, 20, finished the 2035 FPL season 2-2 with a 4.82 ERA, a 1.32 WHIP, a 4.09 FIP, a .200 QS%, a .250 OAVG, a .304 BABIP, 27 strikeouts, and a 0.5 WAR in 28 IP (5 starts). Tanaka, the 19th pick in the 3rd round (92nd overall) of the 2033 BBA Amateur Draft, spent the 2035 season with Class-A Long Island, where he finished the season 5-13 with a 4.50 ERA, a 1.15 WHIP, a 3.75 FIP, a .375 QS%, a .249 OAVG, a .267 BABIP, 81 strikeouts, and a 2.2 WAR in 146 IP (24 starts). Tanaka, the Gamblers’ #11 prospect, is expected to remain with Class-A Long Island for the 2036 season.

RHP Miguel Peña

Peña, 19, finished the 2035 FPL season 2-1 with a 5.40 ERA, a 1.59 WHIP, a 4.54 FIP, a .400 QS%, a .300 OAVG, a .349 BABIP, 22 strikeouts, and a 0.3 WAR in 28 1/3 IP (5 starts). Peña, drafted with the 15th pick in the 2nd round (49th overall) of the 2034 BBA Amateur Draft, spent the 2035 season with Class-Short Season A Bogotá and Class-A Long Island. Peña finished the 2035 season with Class-Short Season A Bogotá 2-6 with a 3.64 ERA, a 1.23 WHIP, a 4.36 FIP, a .400 QS%, a .219 OAVG, a .226 BABIP, 27 strikeouts, and a 0.4 WAR in 54 1/3 IP (10 starts), earning a promotion to Class-A Long Island. Peña finished the 2035 season with Class-A Long Island 0-0 with a 1.23 ERA, a 1.09 WHIP, a 2.08 FIP, a 1.000 QS%, a .214 OAVG, a .250 BABIP, 4 strikeouts, and a 0.3 WAR in 7 1/3 IP (1 start). Peña, the Gamblers’ #9 prospect, is expected to remain with Class-A Long Island to start the 2036 season.

RHP Manuel Rivera

Rivera, 20, finished the 2035 FPL season 1-2 with 1 save in 2 opportunities (.500 save percentage), a 7.20 ERA, a 1.67 WHIP, a 5.21 FIP, a .348 OAVG, a .404 BABIP, 15 strikeouts, and a -0.1 WAR in 15 IP (12 appearances). Rivera, drafted with the 15th pick in the 4th round (114th overall) in the 2034 BBA Amateur Draft, spent the 2035 season with Class-A Long Island and Class-AA Trenton. Rivera finished the season with Class-A Long Island 4-1 with 2 saves in 2 opportunities (1.000 save percentage), a 1.24 ERA, a 0.66 WHIP, a 1.73 FIP, a .160 OAVG, a .209 BABIP, 31 strikeouts, and a 1.2 WAR in 29 IP (31 appearances), earning a promotion to Class-AA Trenton. If Rivera can close that split just a little, he could be more than useful.
