FPL Hitters – the Negatives

The Tallahassee Gamblers finished the 2035 FPL season 18-10, tied for first place in the Panhandle Division and earning a spot in the postseason. The following hitters disappointed at the plate for Tallahassee:

SS Shaun Emmott

Emmott, 22, finished the 2035 FPL season hitting .229/.325/.314 with 18 runs scored, 3 doubles, 2 home runs, 5 RBIs, 10 stolen bases in 10 attempts (1.000 success rate), and a 0.5 WAR in 105 at-bats. Though he disappointed at the plate, Emmott’s defensive metrics as the team’s starting shortstop were above average. Drafted with the 19th pick in the 9th round (262nd overall) of the 2030 BBA Amateur Draft, Emmott started the 2035 season with Class-A Long Island, where he hit .194/.194/.194 with 1 run scored, 3 RBIs, 0 stolen bases in 3 attempts (.000 success rate), and a -0.4 WAR in 36 at-bats. He was promoted to Class-AA, where he played the majority of the 2035 season, and finished the season hitting .181/.241/.293 with 28 runs scored, 12 doubles, 3 triples, 4 home runs, 20 RBIs, 2 stolen bases in 6 attempts (.333 success rate), and a -0.6 WAR in 270 at-bats. Emmott’s 2035 season was a step back from his 2034 season with Class-A Long Island, where he finished the season hitting .300/.342/.457 with 91 runs scored, 18 doubles, 9 triples, 16 home runs, 56 RBIs, 17 stolen bases in 26 attempts (.654 success rate), and a 4.3 WAR in 536 at-bats, earning a selection to the 2034 Charley Pegler League All-Star Game. It appears Emmott will continue with Class-AA Trenton for the 2036 season, though one has to wonder how much leeway he will get if he has another slow start.

3B Daniel Guerra

Guerra, 21, finished the 2035 FPL season hitting .212/.281/.365 with 12 runs scored, 4 doubles, 4 home runs, 11 RBIs, and a 0.1 WAR in 104 at-bats, while providing slightly above average defense at third base. Guerra, the 23rd pick in the 17th round (488th overall) of the 2031 BBA Amateur Draft, spent the 2035 season with Class-Short Season A Bogotá, where he finished the season hitting .243/.344/.412 with 18 runs scored, 9 doubles, 7 home runs, 32 RBIs, and a 0.6 WAR in 177 at-bats. Guerra had two consecutive solid seasons for Rookie Class Albany in 2033 and 2034, but seemed to struggle a bit with Class-Short Season A Bogotá, so it’s likely he will remain with Bogotá for the 2036 campaign.

C Marc-André Paré

Paré, 20, finished the 2035 FPL season hitting .182/.250/.182 with 1 run scored, and a -0.1 WAR in 22 at-bats, serving as Tallahassee’s backup catcher. Paré, drafted with the 23rd pick of the 12th round (348th overall) of the 2031 BBA Amateur Draft, started the 2035 season with Class-A Long Island, where he finished the season hitting .282/.338/.563 with 18 runs scored, 7 doubles, 11 home runs, 21 RBIs, and a 1.2 WAR in 142 at-bats. Paré’s performance earned a promotion to Class-AA Trenton, where he finished 2035 hititng .212/.316/.515 with 7 runs scored, 1 double, 3 home runs, 7 RBIs, and a 0.3 WAR in 33 at-bats. Paré could develop into an above average bat and has the analytical ability and arm to be an above average defensive catcher. Paré, the #12 prospect in the Gamblers’ organization, is expected to start the 2036 season with Class-AA Trenton.
