Boardwalk Empire #1 2024: An All-Star Snub.

Post by Cliche » Sat Dec 26, 2015 10:13 am

It's kind of inevitable that if you're a good first baseman or DH you're going to miss some All-Star trips you should probably make. That's just the nature of trying to build a good All-Star roster, especially when you're representing 12 teams. So when I saw that Antonio Sanchez hadn't made the cut in the FL I wasn't particularly surprised. But I am certainly enjoying his revenge tour.

The 26 year-old is in the first season of his hefty new contract (earning 18.26 million this year) and he's doing his best to live up to that lofty number. He's hit .295/.407/.580 on the season with 37 homers, 106 RBI, 86 runs scored and 80 walks so far. He's got a 1.046 OPS with runners in scoring position. He's hit 19 of his homeruns this year with two strikes on him. He's been one of baseball's biggest threats at the plate for a few seasons now, but he's definitely kicked things into a higher gear this season. He's got a legitimate (if outside) shot at 50 homeruns, a feat no Gambler has ever accomplished.

I can't complain too much about snubs though, we did have a trio of All-Star representatives from Atlantic City. Star closer Hani Tinsley made his fourth trip in the midst of another superb season from him and my bullpen. Rafael Bido made his All-Star debut with the #2 OPS in the FL (currently .995). He's in the midst of his fourth straight 30 homers/20 steals season and he's setting career highs all over the place. He and Sanchez are the engine that really makes this offense hum so it was nice to see him get rewarded for it. We also set web gem machine Timmy Moulin, on the strength of his usual defense and a very strong first half at the plate. He's cooled down some but all he needs is 1 homerun to set a new career best (in either the MBWBA or EBA) and that power increase has made the walk machine even more of a threat at the plate. His defense is a key part of our team-building, so it's nice to see him get recognized. I suspect that also means we're going to have to pay him a lot of money when his current (very cheap) deal is up.

He's been great this year. Thankfully he'll be back...

He might not have made the ASG, but he got my vote for the Sawyer! Revenge tour, indeed!

THIS.

Also, has THIS ever happened before? Non all star gets Silk? I would guess yes, but that's an interesting list . . . that I will now be writing a league feature on.
