Class-AAA Brooklyn Bombers Announce Retirements

The Atlantic City Gamblers' Class-AAA affiliate, the Brooklyn Bombers, have announced the retirement of two players following the 2047 season - right-handed relief pitcher Andrés Valenzuela and right-handed relief pitcher Julián González.

Valenzuela, 30, finished the 2047 season for Class-AAA Brooklyn 0-0 with a 1.93 ERA, 1.50 WHIP, 2.74 FIP, .278 opponents' average, .683 opponents' OPS, 3 strikeouts, and a 0.1 WAR in 4 2/3 innings pitched (2 appearances) prior to his release on April 21st. Despite the release, Valenzuela remained in close contact with the organization in case any roster spots opened up due to injury, but no such roster spots emerged. Valenzuela was drafted by the Gamblers with the 10th pick of the 15th round (458th overall) in the 2036 BBA Amateur Draft, spending 12+ seasons within the organization at every minor league level. Valenzuela finished his career at the Rookie Class level 2-7 with 6 saves in 9 opportunities (.667 save percentage), a 4.04 ERA, a 1.15 WHIP, a 4.20 FIP, a .230 opponents' average, a .724 opponents' OPS, 92 strikeouts, and a -0.3 WAR in 107 innings pitched (87 appearances) across four seasons (2036-2039). Two of the four seasons resulted in a sub-3 ERA; however, two seasons also resulted in a 5+ ERA. Valenzuela had a short stint with Class-Short Season A Bogota, finishing the 2040 season 2-1 with a 2.13 ERA, a 0.79 WHIP, a 4.56 FIP, a .213 opponents' average, a .702 opponents' OPS, 10 strikeouts, and a -0.0 WAR in 12 2/3 innings pitched (9 appearances) -- also winning the 2040 Angela Drake League Supremacy Series with the team. Valenzuela was promoted to Class-A Long Island, spending parts of the 2040 and 2041 seasons with the club while finishing his Class-A career 9-4 with a 3.08 ERA, a 1.03 WHIP, a 3.97 FIP, a .222 opponents' average, a .648 opponents' OPS, 99 strikeouts, and a 1.7 WAR in 134 1/3 innings pitched (32 appearances, 16 starts). Valenzuela spent the majority of his career at the Class-AA level (2041-2046) with the Trenton Generals, finishing his career 22-10 with a 3.85 ERA, a 1.33 WHIP, a 4.02 FIP, a .234 opponents' average, a .688 opponents' OPS, 288 strikeouts, and a 3.2 WAR in 348 2/3 innings pitched (163 appearances), earning a WCL(AA) DNL All-Star selection in 2042.

González, 28, finished the 2047 season for Class-AAA Brooklyn 0-0 with a 2.45 ERA, a 1.23 WHIP, a 2.47 FIP, a .231 opponents' average, a .603 opponents' OPS, 7 strikeouts, and a 0.1 WAR in 7 1/3 innings pitched (2 appearances) prior to his release on April 21st. González was drafted by the Gamblers with the 5th pick in the 8th round (265th overall) of the 2040 BBA Amateur Draft, failing to sign and being re-drafted by the Gamblers with the 4th pick of the 16th round (536th overall) of the 2041 BBA Amateur Draft.
