2063-3 Risk

Well it took nearly 100 attempts, but in theory I've agreed to a contract extension with our ace and Nebraska winner, Dirk Bessi. The news comes after it was felt for the longest time a deal wasn't going to be reached. If the offer does go through it will be a six year, $100 million contract with the final three years being player options. This might not sound too bad for a pitcher turning 30 entering his prime but there is the most obvious factor that he recently became 'Wrecked'. Whilst that is true he for the most part stayed healthy the last three seasons with us before an untimely injury at the end of the year made him miss the playoffs. Once the contract is official he will be immediately sent to the dev lab to work on his conditioning.
But yeah it's a lot of risk. I made the contract slightly front loaded so hopefully when the opt out comes after year 3, his high financial ambition may cause him to opt out again. I tried desperately to make them team options, but he wouldn't budge no matter what. His initial asking price was essentially $22.5 million AAV for six so I suppose I should be happy to bring it down nearly $5 million a year. I strongly considered letting him walk but given the recent market and what's available I feel like it was a move I had to make. Plus since I dealt for him back I wouldn't qualify to receive a comp pick so I would lose him for nothing. With our youngsters not looking to be paid for at least awhile, I think our contending window is open to make another move or two for some help, just got to be careful.
