2059-1 New beginnings?

Post by Knucklehead254 » Fri Apr 19, 2024 12:01 am

After screaming for hours into the abyss, I've finally been able to calm myself down enough to try and think of some moves to make for next season. I mean look at Nashville. That team is way too good and at the current rate we won't have enough to get through them in the Frick League.

"It might be time to re-tool a bit, get younger."

Vancouver last year was home to the second oldest roster in the entire league, just behind fellow Canadian team Montreal. I mean it makes sense, older and more wiser wins games huh? I had Tony Frost, Angel Gonzalez, Thomas Kramer and Jeffrey Smith. Imagine that team 10 years ago..

Anyways the first order of business was to opt-out of all of their team options since they would've gotten huge raises. I agreed in principal to a deal with Tony Frost on a two year deal with the second year being a team option. I love Frost man, he's been a big help to this organization with his flexible contracts. Plus if all goes to hell, he can be traded easily. Kramer wanted a bit more in terms of years without options which scared me off. He'll become a free agent. Gonzalez.. dude will go down as a hall of famer most likely in a Mounties uniform, but these days he's merely a platoon option, and I didn't want to pay top dollar for a guy that can only rake against righties and is turning 39. Smith will be turning 40 and probably will still be at the top of his game, I haven't really had a chance to go over a new contract with him but I'm sure he's gonna be asking for a lot.

Davenport Hinkle opted out of the remainder of his contract but fortunately we have agreed to a new contract that will have him around the next three seasons before two team options. This again should give me more flexibility if I want to trade him, since he no longer has the $17 million player option when he turned 38 that scared potential teams off last season.

I've gotten a couple bites on some star players but with everything changing on how players are evaluated talks have been.. slow. Was this the wrong time to attempt a rebuild? Probably.

I’ve found it extremely difficult to trade players in the offseason. During the season is the time for trades.

I would pay any amount of money for Davenport 'Rotten Tooth' Hinkle just based on his name alone.

I think it's going to be a weird year for trades because people are going to be reluctant to make a deal while still unsure of what the new universe looks like. That said, I am still a bit surprised we haven't seen more so far.
