Vancouver Mounties GM History

TERRY FARRAND (1973) Overall Record: 84-79
Playoff Appearances: 0
Division Titles: 0

The inaugural season of the BBA, The Vancouver Mounties are one of only 5 current franchises to stay in one location under one name from the beginning. The others are the Las Vegas Hustlers, Des Moines Kernals, Louisville Sluggers, and New Orleans Crawdads. In their first season led by GM Terry Farrand, the team finishes with an 84-79 record, which was not enough to make the postseason.

Notable Award Winners/ All Stars:

N/A
JOSH WITT (1974) Overall Record: 65-97
Playoff Appearances: 0
Division Titles: 0

After just their first season Josh Witt took over for the Mounties and had a rough year. The team finished with a 65-97 record and at the end of the year Witt too was gone for the team. Not the best start for a franchise to go through two GMs it's first two years.

Notable Award Winners/ All Stars:

N/A
ERIC SCHOESSLER (1975-1985) Overall Record: 869-913
Playoff Appearances: 3 (1977, 1978, 1984)
Division Titles: 3 (1977, 1978, 1984)

Finally a GM that stuck around, Schoessler helped led a turnaround which lead to the Mounties first playoff berth in 1977. The 89-73 record would be the best he would achieve, but it wouldn't result in a championship for the franchise. Going into the 80's wasn't the best time either as the team had back to back 100 loss seasons. Schoessler would turn that around into a surprise playoff berth in 1984, but after a dissapointing 85 season, he would be gone from the team after a decade with the team.

Notable Award Winners/All Stars:

Scott Bucher:
Sawyer Silk Award Winner (1979)

Tim Lashes:
Joe Gillstrom Newcomer of the Year (1978)
JL Diamond Glove 1B (1978, 1979)

Joe Hardy:
Joe Gilstrom Newcomer of the Year (1983)

LEVI CHRONISTER (1986-1988) Overall Record: 220-266
Playoff Appearances: 1 (1986)
Division Titles: 0

The brief reign of Chronister started with a franchise high 91 wins and a run in the playoffs, although it didn't lead to a championship. After that he had two rough seasons with 99 and 96 losses respectively, and once again the team's GM left before it could really get started.

Notable Award Winners/All Stars:

N/A

RAY DEROY (1989-1990) Overall Record: 159-165
Playoff Appearances: 0
Division Titles: 0

Another GM, another short reign. Deroy took over the struggling franchise and lead them to two average seasons. Like some GM's before, he was gone before he could make a lasting impact.

Notable Award Winners/All Stars:

N/A

KIRK PEDERSEN (1991-1995) Overall Record: 387-423
Playoff Appearances: 1 (1991)
Division Titles: 1 (1991)

Pedersen made an immediate impact when joining the team in 1991 by finishing the year with 93 wins. That was enough for him to win the GM of the Year award, the first Mounties GM to do so. After that season the team trended downwards every year, until in 1995 they finished with a franchise high 105 losses. After that Pedersen left the team.

Notable Award Winners/All Stars:

N/A

JOE GEOHEGAN (1996-2009) Overall Record: 1284-984
Playoff Appearances: 10 (1999, 2000, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009)
Division Titles: 7 (1999, 2000, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2009)
League Pennants: 4 (1999, 2000, 2006, 2008)
Championships: 2 (1999, 2000)

The man, the myth, and simply put, THE LEGEND of Mounties baseball. What else can be said about Geohegan? The dynasty he created started with two players. Robbie Sargant, and Douglas Newhouse. Those two would become franchise legends and were built around for the entire 2000's. In fact starting the dynasty with back to back championships had this team pegged as the potential team of the 2000's. Geohegan will go down as one of the greatest GM's in BBA history, and his inspiration for current GM Aaron Wharram is tenfold.

Notable Winners/All Stars:

Douglas Newhouse:
Sawyer Silk Award (2001)
All Star (1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2007, 2008, 2009)

Robbie Sargent:
Steve Nebraska Award (2005)
All Star (1999, 2000, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2007)

Jason Egan:
Steve Nebraska Award (2007)
Jason Egan Award (1999, 2004, 2005, 2007, 2008, 2009)
All Star (1999, 2000, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009)

Gary Jones:
Steve Nebraska Award (2008)
All Star (2008, 2009)

Jeremy Finch:
All Star (2006, 2008)

BRETT SCHROEDER (2010-2034) Overall Record: 1971-2059
Playoff Appearances: 8 (2010, 2012, 2021, 2022, 2027, 2028, 2030, 2031)
Division Titles: 5 (2010, 2012, 2021, 2022, 2028)

Taking over the insanely popular Joe Geohegan would be a near impossible task for any other GM. However Schroeder proved himself to be a worthy successor and lead Vancouver to some deep playoff runs. However, despite the highs and lows the team wasn't able to return to the Landis Memorial Series. He currently holds the record for longest stint with the team with 24 years. 2029 also marked a new era for the Mounties, as the team was moved from the Johnson League to the Frick League, where they play to this day.

Notable Winners/All Stars:

Douglas Newhouse:
All Star (2012)

Robbie Sargent:
Steve Nebraska Award (2010)
All Star (2010, 2011)

Jeremy Finch:
Sawyer Silk Award (2010)
All Star (2010)

Jason Egan:
Jason Egan Award (2010, 2012, 2013)
All Star (2010, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2016)

Ray Perkins:
Jason Egan Award (2030)
All Star (2030, 2032)

GREGORY FRENCH/JOE GEOHEGAN (2035) Overall Record: 74-88
Playoff Appearances: 0
Division Titles: 0

Not much to be said about this one even though French didn't make it through the season, being replaced by legend Geohegan. Would he be able to turn this franchise back into a contender?

Notable Winners/All Stars:

N/A
JOE GEOHEGAN/BEAU CARSTEN/TAYLOR BETTENCOURT (2036) Overall Record: 69-99
Playoff Appearances: 0
Division Titles: 0

Remember when the GM's were being replaced every year at the beginning? This is that but sped up, as the team went through 3 GM's in one year. Geohegan re-retired and was replaced with Beau Carsten, who then in turn was replaced by Taylor Bettencourt. Safe to say a season with all this turnover was not a very good one. Fortunately stability was on the way.

Notable Winners/All Stars:

N/A

TAYLOR BETTENCOURT (2037-2047) Overall Record: 828-954
Playoff Appearances: 1 (2041)
Division Titles: 1 (2041)

Bettencourt had a tough task bringing back a team into relevance after a few shaky years of uncertainty. It took a few years but eventually the Mounties would go on to win their only division title in the era, which in the end did not help the lengthy championship drought come to an end. He would go on to do something neither Geohegan* nor Schroeder did as Mounties GM. In 2041, Taylor Bettencourt became the second Mounties GM to win the GM of the Year Award.

*GM of the year not tracked from 1995-2005 so could be wrong

Notable Winners/All Stars:

Ángel González:
Sawyer Silk Award (2041)
All Star (2040, 2041, 2042)
BRETT SCHROEDER (2048-2053) Overall Record: 470-502
Playoff Appearances: 2 (2050, 2052)
Division Titles: 1 (2052)

Like Geohegan, Schroeder returned to be Mounties GM and stuck around for half a decade. During this brief period the Mounties would win their last division title in 2052. He would help bring in as well as develop key Mounties talent that still plays for the team today.

Notable Winners/All Stars:

José Ordóñez:
Jason Egan Award (2052)
All Star (2052)

Phil Cole:
All Star (2049, 2050, 2052)

Davenport Hinkle:
All Star (2050, 2051, 2053)

Daniel Pepper:
All Star (2050, 2052)

ZACH HALVERSON (2054) Overall Record: 79-83
Playoff Appearances: 0
Division Titles: 0

Halverson came and went... That's about all I've got.

Notable Winners/All Stars:

Phil Cole:
All Star (2054)

AARON WHARRAM (2055-Present) Overall Record: 356-292
Playoff Appearances: 3 (2056, 2057, 2058)
Division Titles: 0

And finally we're at the present day where the Mounties are currently lead by Wharram, a young Canadian GM. Wharram has helped lead a somewhat turn around of the team, finishing with three straight winning seasons his first three years. Despite this the team has come up short in the playoffs both times they made it, in the Geohegan Round no less. With no title since 2000, Wharram is under a lot of pressure to turn this team into a champion. Will he do it?

Notable Winners/All Stars:

Phil Cole:
All Star (2056, 2057)

Tony Frost:
All Star (2055, 2056, 2058)

Xuan Ngo:
All Star (2055, 2058)

Davenport Hinkle:
All Star (2057, 2058)

Reese Newsome:
All Star (2058)

Steve Warren:
