2057-10 End of Season Review

Post by Knucklehead254 » Tue Jan 16, 2024 12:30 am

Preseason Prediction
90-72

Actual Record
95-67 (+5) Not bad for a ghost-like roster ;)

2nd Place in Frick League Pacific

LEAGUE LEADERS (POSITIONAL PLAYERS)

RF Angel Gonzalez
30 SB (5th in FL)

C Davenport Hinkle
5.44 WAR (5th in FL)
.543 SLG% (10th in FL)

CF Ramon Moreno
42 SB (1st in FL) (I'm so proud)

LEAGUE LEADERS (PITCHERS)

SP Gamal bin Badr
3.48 ERA (6th in FL)
1.21 WHIP (7th in FL)

CP Xuan Ngo
41 SV (1st in FL)

SP Steve Warren

Didn't pitch enough enough innings to qualify for league leaders (18 short) but deserves acknowledgment for his great season

TEAM AWARDS

The Douglas Newhouse Award (previously the Sam Steele Award)
(Best Positional Player of the year)

C Davenport Hinkle (32)
144 GP, 497 AB
.284 AVG, 35 HR, 80 RBI, .331 OPS, .543 SLG%, .875 OPS, 5.44 WAR

The career Mountie finally broke out to have his best season in the majors yet. He made his 4th All-Star game (first since 2053) and looked dominant behind the plate for the Mounties all year. He was arguably the best hitting catcher in the Frick League this year, and led the team in Homeruns. Of course the issue is that with this great performance, will he opt-out of his contract with the team? GM Wharram knows he wants to keep him around as long as possible.

Honorable Mentions:
3B Tony Frost
RF Ángel González
LF Martin Hemming

Previous Winners:
2056 - RF Ángel González
2055 - 3B Tony Frost

The Robbie Sargent Award (previously Major Irvine Award)
(Best Pitcher of the Year)

CP Xuan Ngo (32)
68 GP
41 SV, 1.98 ERA, 67 K, 18 BB, 0.96 WHIP, 1.8 WAR

Wait what? A winner that's not Phil Cole? Well that's what happens when an ill-fated injury knocks you out of a potentially Nebraska winning season. Fortunately Ngo has been more than deserving to take this award home. After being (in my opinion) completely overlooked for reliever of the year last season, Ngo went on to have another season of excellence. Sure the advanced statistics aren't in his favor but a 1.98 ERA is nothing to sneeze at. He was the highlight of an excellent Mounties bullpen this year.

Honorable Mentions:
SP Steve Warren
SP Gamal bin Badr
RP Bill O'Conner

Previous Winners:
2056 - SP Phil Cole
2055 - SP Phil Cole
