2056-4 Wright dealt to Phoenix

WRIGHT SENT TO THE DESERT FOR TWO PROSPECTS February 26, 2056

It seemed nearly impossible to think that a year ago Wharram named Andrew Wright as one of their top stars that could help lead a turnaround in Vancouver. Instead he had an absolutely horrendous 2055 campaign, which saw him essentially play third stringer to LF Martin Hemming and LF Eduardo Correa. Near the end of the season, Wright understandly requested a trade, with Wharram more than willing to oblige. Now the 33-year-old been dealt away to Phoenix in exchange for 21-year-old P Jerome Scovell and 17-year-old RF Joshua Jones. The Mounties will also be retaining 10% of his $8.3 Million salary this year and potentially the next two if the team options get picked up. This move will help the Mounties save $7.47 Million and Wharram already plans to add a couple of more players from this Free Agency class.

"Obviously we're incredibly sad to see him go but given the direction of this team we knew it was time to move on," says Wharram. "we wish him nothing but the best, but now we have an opportunity to add a couple of depth pieces in more pressing areas."

Jerome Scovell pitched in AA last year and was sub-par at best, finishing with a 5.89 ERA in 47 relief appearances, but still being 21 years of age means their is still opportunity to grow his game. He currently pitches a solid fastball-slider combo that gave him 71 strikeouts, if his movement and control could improve a bit he could become a potential BBA reliever. Whether he reaches that far remains to be seen. He may not have a very long leash when it comes down to that.

Joshua Long will be turning 18 tomorrow and has the brighter future of the two prospects. Being at such a young age means he could potentially develop higher than expected, of course however the opposite could be true as well. He has already shown he can hit balls into the gap pretty well but needs to work on making contact with the ball more consistently. Perhaps with a bit of elbow grease Long could become a future starter in the outfield, albeit much further down the line.

Andrew Wright finished his 6 year stint in Vancouver with a .260 AVG, 154 HRs and 365 RBIs for the team.
