Wookey gone for a long.. long time.

The Vancouver Mounties' starting rotation has been pretty decent this season, despite how shitty the rest of the team was, with lefty Allan Bartlett and righty Blama Baker each turning in solid seasons, but there was one pitcher who stood out above the rest.

His name is Shane Wookey. Wookey, who was picked up in a trade with Des Moines for Yahoo Williams during the 1993 season, has spent his entire career in the Vancouver organization.

He's arguably the best young pitcher the Mounties have ever had, but something really, really shitty happened to him in the final full sim of the season.

In a start against Hawaii, which he spun an excellent 6 2/3 inning performance and was credited for the win, Wookey was removed in the seventh inning with what he thought was tightness in his throwing elbow. He came out of the inning and was evaluated by team doctors.

The news was not good. Wookey has a torn flexor tendon in his elbow and he will miss the entire 1996 season, putting an already mediocre Mounties rotation in more jeopardy next year. This team isn't a contender now, and if Wookey suffers some nasty lumps due to this injury, we're in deep shit.

Damn, Kirk. That's one hell of a bad break for a team that couldn't really afford anything major. Here's hoping that Wookey comes back good as new in 1997.
