TVT 2047.8 - 1st Round Pick

Post by StormZ_23 » Wed Jun 09, 2021 11:12 pm

It's that time of year again. The BBA draft is here. For the first time since 2040, the Mounties are sitting in the top 5 of the draft. What happened the last time they were top 5 in the draft? They drafted Daniel Avila. In 2039, they drafted Richie Vanness. It's safe to say these two were busts for separate reasons. So, is the third time the charm? Well, the Mounties did draft a pitcher once again. They drafted Jose Barron.

Barron is a 21 year old starting pitcher coming out of college. As one of the most developed players in this draft class, Barron was always going to go in the top 10. He possess 4 pitches, including a potential plus-plus knuckle curve. Barron has some similarities to 2046 1st round pick Rick Childress. Although, the difference is very apparent, especially if you're a coach. While Childress is usually seen on the field working on his craft, Barron is likely still in the clubhouse. Unfortunately, Barron has relied on his natural talent throughout his college career. Coaches have labeled him as "lazy" and "passive". This could be a big problem, especially for a top 5 pick. However, the Mounties have drafted players like this before. So, we are being cautiously optimistic when we say that Barron could compete for a rotation spot in spring training next year. Although, that really depends if the coaches can get through to him. If they can't, things could go array pretty fast.

Nice pick. I don't think he'll be a bust. May not be a true ace #1 guy but should have a very successful career as a 2-3 guy. The fact he had a great college career and is almost ready now should prevent him from being a bust.
