TVT 2047.6 - Another Huge Signing!

Post by StormZ_23 » Sat Jun 05, 2021 10:58 pm

The last big free agent has finally been signed. It only took until mid-April, but he has signed with a team. Although, Mounties fans were surprised to find that the Mounties were the team to sign him. The player were are talking about is 3B Alex Ramirez. The Mounties gave Ramirez an extremely front loaded 4 year deal worth $38,000,000. This deal works because the Mounties are not expected to be ready to compete this year, leaving them with plenty of money to spend next off-season. So, structuring the deal with a huge 2047 salary and two team options makes sure everyone is happy. What can the Mounties expect out of Ramirez?

Alex Ramirez has had an interesting career. The 31 year old is likely ending his career with a hall of fame plaque, but it's possible he goes in with a blank hat. He spent the first half of his career with the Wichita Aviators, the team who drafted him. He was traded to the San Fernando Bears in 2042. The stint was short, but his two best seasons were in San Fernando. Prior to the 2045 season, Ramirez was traded to the Twin Cities River Monsters as part of their huge roster overhaul. While his time with the team wasn't bad, his batting regressed. However, it's important to note that his BABIP was lower than ever in 2045 and 2046. So, while the Northwoods Outpost isn't the offense filled environment in San Fernando, it's possible a change of scenery will do Ramirez some good. At the very least, he is a fantastic defender at third base and is a team leader. The Mounties have been looking for stability at third base since Rashardo Menne III was traded back in 2042. Speaking of that trade, that deal included the biggest free agent signing ever made by GM Taylor Bettencourt. That player was Aaron Stone. Ramirez's contract is much less risky than Stone's deal, but regression is always a worry. Thankfully, the third base position is much less important than a catcher.

So, what should we make of this deal? Well, the Mounties should win around 75 wins this year. Top prospect Davenport Hinkle will hopefully be ready next season. The Mounties will have over $30 million to spend even with Ramirez and others on the roster. If everyone plays how they're supposed to, the Mounties should have a window open as early as next season. But, anything can happen. Worst case scenario, Ramirez is a bust and the Mounties waste the prime of Jeffrey Smith and Fernando Castillo. No pressure right? Rebuilding is boring, let's make a push!

Sounds a lot like Nashville. Have a few pieces but not quite enough to win. Gotta push for the win and don’t have patience for a full rebuild.

It's not necessarily that I don't have the patience. I just don't want to trade Smith or Castillo. I'm probably just too attached to my star players though. That's how I am in other leagues too.
