TVT 2046.7 - 1st Round Pick

Post by StormZ_23 » Sat Mar 06, 2021 8:41 pm

The BBA draft is currently underway. This draft class is shaping up to be one of the better classes of the decade. Hector Cano Jr. is not as developed as some of the other players in this draft, but he looks like a future star. Apart from him, the majority of the best prospects are pitchers. Given that the Mounties never seem to draft pitchers, this would be a good year for the Mounties break that trend. Well, it looks like they finally did. With the 9th selection of the 2046 BBA draft, the Vancouver Mounties have drafted starting pitcher Rick Childress. Let's analyze this selection.

Rick Childress is a 20 year old starting pitcher from Sacramento, California. He will be entering the BBA out of college, where he spent 3 years playing. 2046 was his best year as he produced a 296 ERA+ and 3.2 WAR. This is very encouraging as he only started 5 games in 2045 due to right shoulder inflammation. However, that shoulder inflammation is a big red flag. The only two pitchers that the Mounties have drafted in the top 10 within the past 10 seasons have both endured serious injuries that derailed their career. So, picking a pitcher with a history of significant injury is very risky. Reportedly, the Mounties didn't make their selection until there was 5 seconds left on the clock. One reason was likely because of this injury history.

Although, at the end of the day, the Mounties have drafted a pitcher with a floor in the mid-rotation. After he signs with the organization, he could easily go straight to the BBA. However, I doubt he will be see any time in the BBA this season, even during roster expansion in September. He needs to build his innings in order to counteract his injury risk. Childress will likely be sent to AAA. As for the future of the Mounties, it is looking bright. Many of the Mounties first wave of prospects have made their debuts this season and some of their best prospects will be ready within the next two to three seasons. The city of Vancouver may have something to cheer about very soon.

Childress is one of those guys i look at individual ratings and feel he's better than Sparks I took at #2. But the nice blue 75 suggests he's better than Childress who is a 55.

I dunno how to evaluate guys anymore I guess.

I'm hoping those big blue shiny numbers have some underlying ratings we can't see.

Groundballer, good velo with chance to grow, already developed change-up...what's not to like? One of these days Vancouver will hit on a pitcher in the draft!

It’s weird because when you look at the scouting tab for Childress it says he’s a 65 potential. So idk what to believe.
