TVT 2046.1 - You're Welcome Edmonton; Unexpected Retirement

Finally, we are in the off-season. One of the most fun times of the baseball season, especially when you are a rebuilding team. However, around this time is when the Brewster champions are celebrating in the streets, usually with a parade. I hope that the Edmonton front office is thanking GM Taylor Bettencourt for a trade they made last off-season.

If you don't remember, Lando Klomp used to be a starting pitcher for the Mounties. He spent 4.5 years in Vancouver. However, apart from his first half season with the team, he never had an ERA+ above 100, which is a bit of an issue. Some of this can be attributed to the Mounties using catchers without good catching ability. This past season the starting catcher was Etienne Kop. Kop is one of the best defensive catchers in the league and one of the most versatile defenders in the league. Thanks Las Vegas. This really makes you wonder how Klomp would have performed with Kop behind the plate. Alas we never got to find out. Klomp began an above average pitcher with the Jackrabbits and was a key piece of their playoff run. The Mounties only traded Klomp because he wouldn't re-sign with the team. Although, it's fair to say Klomp wasn't advertised on the trade market for very long, so in hindsight the return could have been better.

This leads me to the return. The main piece in that trade was Tom Ramey, a relief pitcher. Now, he's never going to reach Klomp status, but he could be a decent middle reliever. Or will he? Before the offseason began, Ramey decided to retire at the age of 21. No reason was given at all. But, here's the weird part. When players retire, you are able to click on the player's page. When Ramey retired, there was no option to look at his page and when you look at the history tab, there is no mention of retirement. So in other words, this retirement makes no sense. The statsplus report says he's still on the AAA team, but he's supposedly retired. Nothing about this makes sense. Maybe he will be officially listed as "retired" sometime soon. Regardless, congrats Edmonton on your championship and congrats Yellow Springs on your yearly runner up award.

In other news, David Noboru won the FL Comeback Player of the Year Award. I guess he really wanted that $21 million team option. Well, that option was declined as unless he had an all star season, there was no way that option was being picked up. Noboru reportedly was not a fan of this, so he wants to test free agency, which could severely harm fan interest. I guess we will wait and see what happens next.
